USF Set for Doubleheader Against Colgate
TAMPA, March 11, 2019 – USF softball will host Colgate on Tuesday for a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m.
The Bulls went 5-1 last week after a midweek doubleheader and four games in the USF-Clearwater Parks and Recreation Showcase. USF took down its second ranked opponent of the season in No. 23/20 Wisconsin with an impressive 7-1 victory. The Bulls also claimed wins over Central Michigan, Furman, UMass and St. John's, and saw their only loss to No. 17/16 Indiana.
Junior
AnaMarie Bruni (Schwenksville, Pa.) had a powerful week at the plate batting .632 (12-for-19) to put her at the forefront of USF's offense. This season she is batting .392 and has scored 22 runs for USF. She went 5-for-5 in stolen bases last week for a total of 18 this season.
Senior
Nicole Doyle (Aurora, Ohio) led USF in the circle with a 3-1 record last week. She pitched 17.1 innings allowing just five total runs for a 2.02 ERA. She held batters to a .210 average and combined with
Cheyenne Eggens (Vienna, Ohio) for a shutout against Central Michigan.
Scouting the Opponents
Colgate (7-8)
The Raiders visit the Bay Area for a 12-game stretch during spring break. Colgate went 1-3 in the USF-Clearwater Parks and Recreation Showcase. Their only win was a 1-0 mark against Toledo.
The Raiders' top hitter is Jordan Miller, a junior outfielder who is batting .447 after starting all 15 games for Colgate. Miller is 21-for-47 with a .745 slugging percentage. She has recorded seven runs, 14 RBI and 35 total bases.
Jessica Hay leads Colgate's pitching staff with a 3-3 record, one complete game and a 3.03 ERA. Hay has pitched 34.2 innings and held batters to a .246 average. Bella Crow also has three wins for the Raiders with a 4.28 ERA and three complete games. She has one shutout and has pitched 36 innings.
