TAMPA, FEB. 1, 2019 – The USF track and field team opens the 2019 outdoor season Thursday when the Bulls travel to Houston to take part in the Houston Spring Break Invitational from the Carl Lewis International Complex.
Field events begin at 11 a.m. (EST) with the men's hammer throw, and running events are scheduled to start at 2 p.m. (EST) with the women's 2000-meter steeplechase.
USF last competed on Feb. 23 at the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala, where senior David Bell (Jacksonville) captured the individual title in the pole vault with a height of 16-10.00. Freshman Stone Baker (New Port Richey, Fla.) placed fourth in the event with his mark of 16-02.00, while Mitchell Mueller (Algonac, Mich.) tied for eighth with a height of 15-08.25.
Junior Adriana Janic (Malmo, Sweden) posted a second-place finish in the pentathlon with 3,791 points. Janic won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.54 and captured the crown in the high jump with a height of 5-08.50, which is tied for the fifth-best indoor height in school history. Janic also took second in the long jump with a distance of 18-09.75, giving her the 10th-longest indoor distance in school history.
Senior Chelsea Francis (Jacksonville) turned in the fastest indoor time in school history in the 200 meters at 23.99 seconds on her way to placing sixth in the preliminaries. Francis would go on to place sixth in the finals with a time of 24.54 seconds.
