TAMPA, March 2, 2019 – USF softball visited the Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex in Clearwater, Fla., on Saturday for day two the USF-Clearwater Parks and Recreation Invitational where the Bulls fell to Middle Tennessee, 2-1, and defeated Iowa, 1-0.
Middle Tennessee 2, USF 1
USF (11-9) held Middle Tennessee (11-9) scoreless until the fourth inning when the Blue Raiders hit the gap in left field for a single and homered just over the centerfield fence to score two.
USF rallied in the seventh inning but couldn't overcome Middle Tennessee. Senior
Lindsey Devitt (Jacksonville, Fla.) slammed a ball into the right field wall, and advanced to third and scored on a pair of groundouts.
USF 1, Iowa 0
After five-and-a-half scoreless innings, freshman
Megan Pierro (Lutz, Fla.) led off with a walk in the bottom of the sixth, and advanced on a passed ball. Pierro advanced again on a groundout setting herself up to make it home when redshirt sophomore
Bethaney Keen (Bradenton, Fla.) hit an RBI double to left field.
Sophomore
Georgina Corrick served up a complete game shutout in her eighth-straight win. She fanned seven and walked just one, limiting Iowa (10-8) to two hits.
