STORRS, Conn., April 18, 2019 – USF swept its doubleheader against UConn on Thursday for its fourth straight series win, 10^th and 11^th straight wins in conference play, despite rainy and cold conditions in Storrs, Conn.
 
USF 4, UConn 0
USF (34-15, 12-2) went up early with a two-out rally that saw junior AnaMarie Bruni (Schwenksville, Pa.) cross home for the 32^nd time this season with redshirt sophomore Bethaney Keen's 32^nd RBI. Bruni reached first on a fielder's choice, advanced on a bloop single by senior Macy Cook (Uniontown, Ohio) and scored on a single through the right side by Keen.
 
In the second inning, redshirt sophomore Brooke Leistl (Valrico, Fla.) reached and advanced to second on a throwing error. She scored on a single to left field by freshman Meghan Sheehan (Forest Hill, Md.), giving the Bulls a 2-0 lead.
 
The Bulls doubled their lead with two runs on two hits in the seventh inning. A walk and an error put Lindsey Devitt (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Bruni on the corners. The runners scored on RBI singles by Cook and junior Kelsey Lay (West Palm Beach, Fla.), putting the Bulls up 4-0 in the shutout win.
 
Sophomore pitcher Georgina Corrick (Sanford, Fla.) struck out 15 to lead USF to a shutout win. She improved to 19-3 this season and limited to the Huskies to five hits.
 
USF 5, UConn 3
For the second straight game, the Bulls jumped ahead early. In the first inning, Bruni reached first on a fielder's choice and scored when Cook smashed a homerun over the right field fence to give the Bulls a 2-0 lead.
 
In the fourth inning, freshman Megan Pierro (Lutz, Fla.) singled and advanced to third when Sheehan made it to second on an error. Pierro scored on a wild pitch to give USF a 3-0 lead. The Huskies responded with a solo homerun in the bottom of the frame and an RBI single to bring the score to 3-2.
 
The Bulls scored two runs on three hits, all doubles, in the seventh inning. Sheehan, Bruni and Keen all smacked a double in play in the final inning. Sheehan made it home on a groundout by Cook, and Bruni scored on a wild pitch to give the Bulls some extra cushion going into the bottom of the seventh. The Huskies added one run in the seventh inning but couldn't rally against the Bulls.
 
USF pitched by committee for the 5-3 win against UConn. Seniors Nicole Doyle (Aurora, Ohio) and Cheyenne Eggens (Vienna, Ohio) worked together to get through 6.1 innings, and Corrick earned the save with two outs in the seventh. Doyle pitched 4.1 innings, fanning three and improving to 10-9. Eggens pitched two innings of relief and struck out two. Corrick entered for the final two outs to hold off the possible tying runs.

• USF is now 12-2 in conference play with 11 straight wins, and four straight series wins
• Corrick reached double-digit strikeouts for the eight time this season
• Corrick has held opponents to just three runs in her last 55.2 innings pitched
• Corrick is four strikeouts away from 200 this season
• Mia Fung made her first appearance since an arm injury in February, she entered to pinch run for Cook
• Cook recorded three RBI in game two of the doubleheader
• Four Bulls had multi-hit games in at least one game of the doubleheader, Cook, Sheehan, Bruni and Keen
