TAMPA, FLA., April 30, 2019 – The USF baseball team evaded a bases loaded jam in the ninth to hang on for a 6-4 win over Stetson Tuesday.
The Bulls (22-21) and Hatters (18-26) were tied, 2-2, in the bottom of the fourth. Senior
Chris Chatfield (Riverview, Fla.) broke the stalemate with a solo shot to right. USF added two more in the sixth, then Stetson matched in the seventh to make it 5-4.
USF got some insurance in the bottom of the seventh on another Chatfield RBI, making it 6-4. The Hatters loaded the bases with one away in the top of the ninth.
Brandon Schrepf (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) recorded a strikeout, then a wild pitch went to the backstop. Senior catcher
Tyler Dietrich (Naples, Fla.) quickly retrieved the ball and tagged the lead runner at home for the final out.

Jake Sullivan (Tampa) hit his third home run of the year.

- Chatfield and Sullivan each went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run.
- The top six in the USF lineup each scored a run.
- Redshirt-junior righty Dylan Burns (Vero Beach, Fla.) went a career long 6.2 innings, getting the win. He struck out five.
- Schrepf struck out two in the ninth for his first career save.
- The Bulls have won six of their last seven games.

The University of South Florida baseball team is one of the fastest rising programs in the country. The Bulls reached the NCAA Regionals in 2015 for the first time in 13 years and followed that success with a 42-19 record and second NCAA regional trip in three years in 2017.
