Bruni, Corrick Named NFCA First-Team All-Region

TAMPA, FLA. May 20, 2021 – A pair of University of South Florida softball players were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Mideast Region First Team, the organization announced on Thursday. Junior pitcher Georgina Corrick and senior outfielder AnaMarie Bruni were both voted to the team by the association's coaches.

"What a well-earned accolade for both Georgina and AnaMarie," head coach Ken Eriksen said. "They have been tremendously instrumental in our team approach to success. Hard work pays off. At the same time, unrecognizable teams have unrecognizable players. This is obviously a testament to their teammates efforts also."

Bruni was voted to the team for the first time in her collegiate career after being named to the all-region third team in 2019. The senior has hit .385 this season in 135 at bats entering the NCAA Tournament. She broke the USF single-season stolen bases record, swiping 36 bags in 46 games, beating Shelly Riker's mark of 33 set in 2002. Her 97 career steals is a conference record and ranks No. 2 all-time at USF, seven behind Riker's 104.

The Schwenksville, Pa. native has started all 46 games this season at center field and leads the team in batting average, hits (52) and on-base percentage (.462). Bruni also ranks fifth in the nation in stolen bases and eighth in stolen bases per game (0.78).

Corrick (Sanford, Fla.) clinched her third placement to the first team list, joining her 2018 selections and her 2019 honor, when she was also named a second-team All-American. In the 2021 season, Corrick has posted a 22-7 record with a 0.97 ERA and a 0.74 WHIP.

The Great Britain National Team member is nationally-ranked in multiple categories, including shutouts (13, first), strikeouts (300, second), ERA (ninth), victories (10th), hits allowed per seven innings (3.53, 11th), strikeouts per seven innings (10.4, 15th) and strikeouts-to-walk ratio (6.38, 18th).

The Mideast region consists of select schools from the American Athletic Conference, Big East, Conference USA, MAC, Missouri Valley Conference, Ohio Valley Conference and Southern Conference. Joining USF in the Mideast region from the AAC is UCF and East Carolina.

Both Corrick and Bruni are now eligible to be selected as All-Americans.

USF begins play in the NCAA tournament as it takes on Florida in the opening game of the Gainesville Regional. First pitch in the game is at 2 p.m. on ESPNU. Joining USF and Florida in the regional are Baylor and South Alabama.
