Softball Picked to Finish Second in American Athletic Conference
TAMPA, FLA. Jan. 11, 2022 – The University of South Florida softball team was voted to finish second in the American Athletic Conference for the 2022 season by the league's coaches, the conference announced on Tuesday.
South Florida finished second in the poll, receiving 31 points and a first-place nod in an identical showing to the 2021 poll. Wichita State earned the top spot in the poll with four first-place votes and 33 points. Central Florida came in third with 29 points, followed by Houston (19), Tulsa (18), Memphis (9) and East Carolina (8).

Eriksen's squad finished 31-19 in 2021 and reached the NCAA regional finals in Gainesville, Fla. South Florida finished second in the regular season standings, only two games behind Wichita State.
Two-time All-American and three-time AAC Pitcher of the Year Georgina Corrick (Sanford, Fla.) returns to lead the Bulls in 2022. The COVID-senior was the 2021 NCAA Statistical Champion with 15 shutouts in addition to tossing a 0.98 ERA in 228.1 innings in the circle. Corrick is on the verge of breaking multiple program records, including complete games (10 away), strikeouts (219 away), shutouts (3 away) and starts (seven away).
All-Conference selections Megan Pierro (Lutz, Fla.) and Alexis Johns (Sarasota, Fla.) also return to the lineup in 2022. Johns finished second in the American Athletic Conference with 22 stolen bases while also boasting a .254 batting average with 32 runs. Pierro followed closely behind Johns in stolen bases with 18, third in the conference, and a .250 batting average.
South Florida opens its 2022 season with the USF-Rawlings Invitational, which sees Florida, Michigan, Illinois State and Missouri – Kansas City visit USF softball stadium from Feb. 10-13.
