USF Day One of Commodore Challenge
Nashville, Tenn., Jan. 14, 2022 – The University of South Florida track and field wrapped up day one of the Commodore Challenge held at Vanderbilt.Â
In the men's high jump, sophomore Romaine Beckford topped the competition and tied a program record with a mark of 2.16m (7'1).Â
Senior Eron Carter came in third in the men's weight throw competition at 18.60m (61'0.25). Freshman Alliya Boothe recorded a personal best and placed eighth at 16.73m (54'10.75). Â Both Carter and Boothe's marks place them on the indoor all-time list fourth and ninth.
Freshman Shanyia Benjamin came in fifth overall in the women's 300-meter dash after crossing the finish line at 40.30 seconds, leading four bulls placed in the top ten.
Sophomore Elijah Wright earned a top two spot in the men's 300-meter run with a time of 35.45 seconds.Â
"It was good to face competition today and we value every opportunity to compete." head coach Erik Jenkins said. "Romaine lead the charge today with a quality effort in the high jump tying the school record. He currently ranks 5th in the NCAA. Elijah also had a solid performance in the 300 to secure a second place finish."

The Bulls will finish out the Commodore Challenge tomorrow, starting with the shot put at noon ET.
