AUBURN, Ala. (November 10, 2022) – The University of South Florida Bulls and nationally-ranked Auburn Tigers square off for the second time in as many seasons on Friday night at 8 p.m. ET in Alabama.

Last season at Amalie Arena in Tampa, South Florida took Auburn to the limit in a 58-52 setback. The Bulls opened that game on a 9-0 scoring run, owned a 33-26 halftime edge and held the lead for 27:33 of total game time before the Tigers roared back in the second half. The stout USF defense held Auburn start Wendell Green Jr. scoreless in the game.

A staple of Brian Gregory's teams, the Bulls' defense showed up once again in the 2022-23 season opener, a 64-61 loss to Southeast Missouri State on Monday in Tampa. No. 15 Auburn also used a strong defensive effort in its 52-70 win over George Mason to begin the season early this week.

Green Jr. led the Tigers with 16 points. Auburn forced 19 turnovers, with 14 steals, held a 48-37 rebounding advantage and blocked 10 total shots.

Keyshawn Bryant carried the Bulls on Monday with 19 points and enters Friday's tilt against a familiar foe just eight points away from 1,000 in his collegiate career. While at South Carolina, Bryant faced off against Auburn five times, including a 24-point effort in 2021.

Jamir Chaplin tallied five points, three steals and two rebounds against Auburn last season, while Sam Hines Jr. turned in six points and five rebounds.

Friday's game is one of just two true road games for USF during its 2022-23 non-conference slate.

About USF Men's Basketball

The USF men's basketball team is led by head coach Brian Gregory, who enters his sixth season in 2022-23. Gregory was introduced as the 10th head coach in program history in March of 2017 after previously leading programs at Georgia Tech (2011-16) and Dayton (2003-11). Gregory spent nearly a decade as an assistant coach under Michigan State's Hall of Fame head coach Tom Izzo and helped the Spartans win the 2000 NCAA National Championship. Gregory owns over 300 career head coaching wins and six postseason appearances, including the 2010 NIT Championship with Dayton. In his second season at the helm of the Bulls, Gregory led the team to the best win turnaround in the NCAA, the most single-season wins in school history and the 2019 College Basketball Invitational championship.

USF has retired three numbers in its history: Chucky Atkins (12), Charlie Bradley (30) and Radenko Dobras (31). The Bulls have earned three NCAA tournament bids, appeared in the NIT eight times and won the 2019 College Basketball Invitational.
