Softball Powers Past Kansas City, 10-4

TAMPA, Feb. 11, 2022 – The University of South Florida softball team kept up its winning ways with a 10-4 victory over Kansas City on Friday afternoon. The Bulls are now 2-0 on the season.

Megan Pierro (Lutz, Fla.) paced USF hitters, going three-for-three with a triple and four RBIs. Emma Humplik (Orange, Texas) made her collegiate debut and went two-for-three with an RBI, while Erin Poepping (Lino Lakes, Minn.) earned her first USF win in the game.

The Bulls struck quickly in the bottom of the first. Alexis Johns (Sarasota, Fla.) and Meghan Sheehan (Forest Hill, Md.) reached to begin the inning and Alanah Rivera (St. Petersburg, Fla.) drove them home to give South Florida a 2-0 lead. Two batters later, USF again had runners on second and third. Pierro drove home Rivera on a sacrifice fly and Emilee Hanlon (Dunkirk, N.Y.) singled home Vivian Ponn (Fort Myers, Fla.) to give the Bulls a four-run lead at the end of the first.

Kansas City answered in the top of the second with a three-run home run, but the Bulls added three runs on a Pierro triple in the bottom of the inning to extend its lead back to four. South Florida added another in the third with Hanlon scoring on an error.

Kansas City hit another home run, this time a solo shot, in the top of the sixth, but the Bulls again quickly responded in the bottom of the inning. Humplik drove home a pair of runs with a single up the middle to end the scoring at 10-4.
