Bulls Finish Day One at Windy City Invitational

Tampa, Fla., Feb. 11, 2022 – The University of South Florida track & field team wrapped up the first day of the Windy City Invitational on Friday evening.

"The group produced several solid performances in tough competition," head coach Erik Jenkins said. "These experiences continue to help mold us into the type program we aspire to be. I am looking forward to tomorrow's competition."
 
Romaine Beckford (Portland, Jamaica) took home first place in the men's high jump with a distance of 2.10 meters (6-10.75). Kendell Mosley (Niceville, Florida) and David Ajama (Lowell, Mass.) followed closely in the event, with Mosley taking third (6-08.75) and Ajama earning fourth (6-04.75).
 
The Bulls earned top-five placements in both the men's and women's long jump. Shaniya Benjamin (Tampa, Florida) took second for the women with 6.01 meters (19-08.75) while Ajamatook fourth place for the men with a distance of 6.99 meters (22-11.25).
 
Alliya Boothe (Bloomfield, Conn.) posted a personal best throw of 17.64 meters (57-10.50) in the women's weight throw, earning her a fifth-place finish in the event. She still holds the eighth spot on USF's top ten list.
 
USF had three sprinters move up in the program's top-ten list in the women's 200-meter dash. Hannah Connell (Bridgetown, Barbados), who finished seventh overall in the event, tied forthird on the list with a time of 24.10 seconds. Zahria Allers-Liburd (Miami, Florida) won her heat and moved into seventhon the program's list at 24.33 seconds, while Kadesha Prescott (Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago) also won her heat and moved into ninth with a time of 24.65 seconds.
 
The Bulls are back in action tomorrow at noon for the second day of the Windy City Invite.
 
About USF Track and Field
The USF track and field team has earned 53 All-America selections and at least one All-American in 10 of the last 12 years, including a record eight athletes claiming 11 honors in 2021. Tampa native Shaniya Benjamin set a program record earning three All-American honors during the 2021 outdoor season, while triple jumper Matthew O'Neal, a 2016 graduate, became USF's first six-time NCAA All-American. Bulls have posted two NCAA runner-up finishes since 2013 - O'Neal (triple jump, 2016) and Courtney Anderson (high jump, 2013). Head coach Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2020 and in the 2021 outdoor season the Bulls posted seven program records and 40 top 10 all-time program marks. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium located on the east end of campus.
