TAMPA (February 16, 2022) – The University of South Florida Bulls wrap up their stretch of six games over 13 days with two more home games at Yuengling Center on Thursday night against ECU and Saturday afternoon against Tulsa.

Thursday's game against ECU is a makeup of a postponed contest from January 1. The Bulls and Pirates will square off again in North Carolina next Wednesday.

USF has won four of the last five meetings against ECU, including two straight in Tampa, both in overtime. The Pirates are 1-5 on the road this year and 2-8 overall away from home.

Russel Tchewa scored seven points and pulled down five rebounds in the lone meeting against ECU last season. Tchewa scored nine points and matched a career high with 10 rebounds against Tulsa on Tuesday night, just missing his second double-double of the year.

Serrel Smith Jr. paced the Bulls off the bench on Tuesday with a season-high 17 points on 4-7 shooting from beyond the arc. Corey Walker Jr. tallied a career-high 11 points in the setback. Walker Jr. also notched new career highs in rebounds (11) and blocks (4) last Saturday at Wichita State.

Caleb Murphy (11.7) continues to lead USF's offense followed by Javon Greene (9.5). Jamir Chaplin is averaging a team-best 11.3 ppg on 49.5 percent shooting over 11 conference games this season. Chaplin missed Tuesday's game against Tulane with an ankle injury.

About USF Men's Basketball

The USF men's basketball team is led by head coach Brian Gregory, who enters his fifth season in 2021-22. Gregory was introduced as the 10th head coach in program history in March of 2017 after previously leading programs at Georgia Tech (2011-16) and Dayton (2003-11). Gregory spent nearly a decade as an assistant coach under Michigan State's Hall of Fame head coach Tom Izzo and helped the Spartans win the 2000 NCAA National Championship. Gregory owns over 300 career head coaching wins and six postseason appearances, including the 2010 NIT Championship with Dayton. In his second season at the helm of the Bulls, Gregory led the team to the best win turnaround in the NCAA, the most single-season wins in school history and the 2019 College Basketball Invitational championship.

USF has retired three numbers in its 51-year history: Chucky Atkins (12), Charlie Bradley (30) and Radenko Dobras (31). The Bulls have earned three NCAA tournament bids, appeared in the NIT eight times and won the 2019 College Basketball Invitational.
