February 27, 2022 | Softball
TAMPA, Fla., Feb. 27, 2022 – The University of South Florida softball team posted its fifth shutout of the season and fourth of the weekend in a 2-0 victory over St. John's to wrap up a five-game weekend slate.
Georgina Corrick (Sanford, Fla.) made her 110th career start in the circle, setting a new program record by passing Monica Triner's and Sara Nevins' 109 starts. She earned her eighth win of the season, along with her sixth complete game and third shutout effort.
Alexis Johns (Sarasota, Fla.) finished the day three-for-four at the plate and drove home the game-winning run.
Pitchers dueled to start the game. While South Florida had baserunners reach scoring position in the first three innings, St. John's defense kept the Bulls off the board while USF only allowed a pair of baserunners through four innings.
The Bulls broke the stalemate in the fifth. With Jordyn Kadlub (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) and Hallie Bryant (Trenton, Fla.) in scoring position, Johns singled home Bryant with Kadlub also scoring on an error on the play to put the Bulls ahead 2-0.
Corrick continued to deal in the circle for the rest of the game, maintaining her perfect record through eight starts.
