TAMPA, Fla., March 18, 2022 – Not only did University of South Florida pitcher
Georgina Corrick throw her 11
th complete-game shutout of the season in a 2-0 win over Lehigh, she also crushed the game-winning solo home run in the Bulls' 25
th victory of the season.
Corrick (Sanford, Fla.) struck out 13 to push her career total to 1,079, just 25 shy of breaking the program record of 1,103 set by Sara Nevins. The solo home run was her first of the season and sixth of her career.
Pitchers dueled for most of the contest. South Florida finally broke through in the bottom of the sixth. Corrick led off the inning and sent the first pitch she saw deep to left, nearly clearing the Lawlor Family Batting Facility to put the Bulls ahead 1-0.
Following back-to-back singles and a sacrifice bunt where
Megan Pierro (Lutz) reached on an error, the Bulls added to their lead as
Madison Epperson singled to shortstop, driving home her 15
th run of the season in
Alexis Johns (Sarasota).
Corrick shut down Lehigh again in the seventh to earn the victory.
Notables
- Corrick has now tied herself for sixth on USF's single-season list with 11 shutouts.
