TAMPA (February 4, 2022) – The University of South Florida women's golf team returns to the links one month after a record-breaking performance in its first spring event of the 2021-22 season. The Bulls will compete at the Trinity Forest Invitational, hosted by SMU, on March 7-8 at Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas, Texas.
The 14-team field includes: USF, SMU, Texas Tech, UNLV, New Mexico, Tulane, Tulsa, New Mexico State, Memphis, Northern Illinois, UAB, UTEP, DBU and SMU's "B" team.
Teams will play 36 holes on Monday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start, and conclude the tournament with 18 holes on Tuesday. Tee times and pairing will be released over the weekend.
South Florida is currently ranked No. 75 in the latest Golfstat rankings. Dallas Baptist checks in at No. 4, Texas Tech at No. 23 and UNLV at No. 38.
Head coach Erika Brennan (4th season) has announced the following lineup for South Florida: Melanie Green (Medina, N.Y.), Morgan Baxendale (Windermere), Leonor Medeiros (Palmela, Portugal), Ana Maria Barriga (Neiva, Columbia) and Ashley Zagers (Oldsmar).
"We are amped for this upcoming nine-day road trip and our two upcoming events," said Brennan. "We know that the Trinity Forest course is different than we typically play, so preparation has looked different. The team has looked sharp and they are eager to test their game this week. Staying focused on the controllables will be key."
The Bulls opened their spring slate with a fourth-place finish at the FAU Paradise Invitational in Boca Raton. South Florida's final round score of 11-under-par set a new program record, and the overall team score of 853 was just one stroke off the 54-hole record set earlier this season at the USA Intercollegiate.
Green paced USF last time out with a score of 211 (-5) while recording her third top-10 finish of the 2021-22 season. She has finished in the top 25 in four of five events to date. Green has carded scores of par or better in 12 of her 14 rounds and owns a 70.42 scoring average.
Baxendale is second on the team with a 72.28 scoring average, followed by Zagers at 73.64.
Medeiros posted her best collegiate score (213) and round (68) last time out at the FAU Paradise Invitational. Barriga played in all four fall events and will be making her spring debut at the Trinity Forest Invite. She posted a 74.27 scoring average in the fall.
