Cougars down Bulls on Saturday

Nick Gonzalez went 2-for-3 to raise his batting average to .333 on the year.

TAMPA (April 30, 2022) – The University of Houston (28-15, 9-5 AAC) won its second straight game at USF Baseball Stadium on Saturday afternoon with a 13-2 victory over the University of South Florida (23-19, 4-10 AAC).

Nick Gonzalez (Tampa) collective two of South Florida's six hits in the ballgame to extend his hitting streak to six straight. Nelson Rivera (Toa Alto, Puerto Rico) and Sonny Rao (Orlando) each drove in runs for the Bulls. Rivera's 16 RBI this season are a new career high.

Houston broke the scoring seal with a two-run homer in the top of the third inning against Austin Grause (Tampa) after a two-out single extended the inning and was followed by the home run that just snuck over the outfield wall. Grause allowed two runs on four hits and struck out one over 3.0 IP in his second start of the season.

The Cougars busted the game open with seven runs in the fourth inning and added a pair in both the sixth and seventh innings.
