Bulls Win Three Events on First Day of South Florida Invitational
Tampa, Fla., April 8, 2022 – The University of South Florida track and field team began the South Florida Invitational with a broken records and ended the day with seven podium finishes in the men's competitions.

Eron Carter (Palatka, Florida) started the day by taking first in the hammer throw with a program-record 59.45-meter (195-0) throw. The throw earned first place in the event and surpassed the previous program-best that he set earlier this season. Carter earned his second first-place finish of the afternoon to close out field events, throwing 56.93 meters (186-9) in the discus. The mark improves his USF-best and he remains at No. 3 on the program's all-time list.

Romaine Beckford earned another event win for the Bulls in the high jump with a mark of 2.12 meters (6-11.5).

David Ajama (Lowell, Mass.) earned USF's third podium finish of the day in the long jump, placing second with a 7.37-meter (24-2.25) leap, while
Johann Jeremiah (St. George's, Grenada) also earned a second-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 17.26 meters (56-7.5).

In track events,
Michael Bourne III (Midlothian, Va.) placed in third in the 400 hurdles with a time of 54.70.

Mikhail Kakoulin (Gettysburg, Pa.) finished day one of the South Florida Invitational by taking second place in the 10,000 meters with a time of 32:39.45.

Sean Young (Titusville, Fla.), competing unattached as a USF alumnus, placed first in the pole vault with a 5.10-meter (16-8.75) vault.

Tomorrow, the women will kick off day two of the South Florida Invitational at 11 a.m.

About USF Track and Field
The USF track and field team has earned 54 All-America selections and at least one All-American in 10 of the last 12 years, including a record eight athletes claiming 11 honors in 2021. Tampa native Shaniya Benjamin set a program record earning three All-American honors during the 2021 outdoor season, while triple jumper Matthew O'Neal, a 2016 graduate, became USF's first six-time NCAA All-American. Bulls have posted two NCAA runner-up finishes since 2013 - O'Neal (triple jump, 2016) and Courtney Anderson (high jump, 2013). Head coach Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2020 and in the 2021 outdoor season the Bulls posted seven program records and 40 top 10 all-time program marks. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium located on the east end of campus.Â
