USF Men’s Basketball lands Memphis transfer Tyler Harris
TAMPA (May 10, 2022) – University of South Florida men's basketball head coach Brian Gregory has announced the signing of Tyler Harris, a transfer from Memphis, who will join the Bulls for his final year of eligibility during the 2022-23 season.
Harris logged career highs in field goal percentage (40.4%) and three-point shooting (39.3%) during his final season at Memphis in 2021-22 as an integral part of the Tigers NCAA Tournament run.
Harris joins South Florida's 2022 recruiting class that includes Selton Miguel (K-State transfer), Marion County (Indiana) Player of the Year Ryan Conwell (freshman) and Dok Muordar (freshman).
"Tyler plays with unbelievable passion and enthusiasm. The way he plays is infectious, and it's going to be felt by the players in our locker room and our fans," Gregory said. "He's a very versatile guard. He can create shots for himself and his teammates, and is going to be tremendous in our transition game. Tyler has proven himself over a four-year college career to be a high-level scorer and impact player. This past year, in games that he 21 minutes or more, he averaged nearly 17 points in those contests. He has a knack for making big and exciting plays, and is a player who will set the tone and tempo for our guys everyday. We're so exciting to welcome Tyler and his family to our South Florida family."
The 5-9 guard began his career at Memphis and played in 36 games (15 starts) during the 2018-19 campaign and was named to the AAC All-Freshman Team. That season he set a new program record for three-pointers by a freshman (79), scored in double figures 19 teams, including five 20-point games over his first nine career games, and ranked third on the team in scoring (10.8). He tallied a career-high 25 points in his sixth collegiate game on 7-11 shooting from downtown against Charleston.
Harris played in all 31 games as a sophomore for Memphis in 2019-20 and led the Tigers for the second straight season in three-point baskets (59). He transferred to Iowa State as a junior in 2020-21 before returning to Memphis for the 2021-22 campaign. At Iowa State, Harris was one of two Cyclones to play in all 24 games and posted a season-high 22 points against Baylor that season.
In his final year at Memphis, Harris played in 33 games and scored in double figures 15 times, including a season-high 24 against Tulsa.
Over 124 career games, Harris has averaged 9.1 points and 1.4 assists while shooting 37.7 percentage from the field and 34.4 percentage from beyond the arc. He is an 85.9 percent career shooter from the free throw line.
The Memphis, Tennessee native was the recipient of the 2018 Class AAA Mr. Basketball Award winner is Cordova High School's all-time leading scorer (2,647 points). Harris is one of only 12 players in Memphis high school basketball history to have scored more than 2,500 career points. The four-star recruit signed with Memphis over Baylor out of high school.

Gregory was introduced as the 10th head coach in program history in March of 2017 after previously leading programs at Georgia Tech (2011-16) and Dayton (2003-11). USF has retired three numbers in its history: Chucky Atkins (12), Charlie Bradley (30) and Radenko Dobras (31). The Bulls have earned three NCAA tournament bids, appeared in the NIT eight times and won the 2019 College Basketball Invitational.
