TAMPA, Feb. 10, 2023 – The University of South Florida softball team fell to the Boston College Eagles, 4-2, and the Boston University Terriers, 8-0, on the second day of the USF-Rawlings Tournament.
GAME 1 -Boston College 4, USF 2
The first game of South Florida's double header started off strong. Redshirt Senior
Meghan Sheehan (Forest Hills, Md.) walked and then stole second to put herself in scoring position early. Sophomore
Emma Humplik (Orange, Texas) singled down the left field line for her first RBI of the season.
In the top half of the third inning, the Eagles tied the game after Nicole Giery scored after two Bulls errors. It was the duo of Sheehan and Humplik in the bottom half of the same inning to give South Florida the 2-1 lead.
Both teams would go scoreless until the top of the seventh when Boston College took the 4-2 lead off a three-run home run by Abigail Knight.
GAME 2- Boston College 8, USF o
Transfer pitcher
Gabriella Nori (Weston) earned her first start in the Green and Gold in the second game of the doubleheader.
The senior pitched 3.2 innings, retired seven batters and only walked one. Freshman
Morgan Grubb (Bartow) followed her for her first collegiate appearance. She pitched 2.1 innings.

Vivian Ponn (Fort Meyers),
Emilee Hanlon (Dunkirk, N.Y.), and
Meghan Sheehan were the only Bulls to record a hit against the Terriers.
Notables
- Humplik and Lydia Castro (Lithia) led the Bulls with two hits each, both against Boston College.
- The Bulls totaled 10 strikeouts.
- Morgan Grubb and Jaden Martinez (Tallahassee) both made their college debuts.
- Hanlon has a hit in two of the first three games.
Up Next
The Bulls continue play in the USF-Rawlings Invitational tomorrow with another double header against Saint Joseph's and Illinois State. First pitch for game one is set for 4:30 p.m.
