Bulls Establish Three Program Records at Windy City Invitational

Babin, Beckford, and Reid set new records for USF.

Chicago, Ill., Feb. 11, 2023 – The University of South Florida track & field team completed another record-breaking weekend of competition at the Windy City Invite on Saturday afternoon.
 
"Today was a better day for us. There were a lot of exciting performances during the competition, and I am pleased that we could add to the meet."
 
Romaine Beckford and Kendell Mosley claimed first and second place, respectively, in the men's high jump. Beckford posted a new school record of 2.22m (7-3.25), while Mosley followed closely behind with 2.08m (6-9.75). 
 
In the women's competition, Annia Ashley posted 1.73m (5-8.00) to take seventh place, while Nia Robinson followed in seventh with 1.68m (5-6.00).


David Ajama took second place in the men's triple jump. Ajama posted a new indoor personal best with a mark of 16.03m (52-5.25), making him the second-best performer in program history.
 
To close out field events, Kobe Babin finished fourth in the men's pole vault competition, breaking the program record with a mark of 5.38m (17-7.75). It was his third straight competition setting a personal record. 
 
In the running events, Shevioe Reid broke another program record, this time in the men's 200m, with a time of 21.14. The twelve-year record belonged to Derrick Hopkins. Je'Nyia Burton won her heat in the women's 200m with a personal indoor best time of 24.13, tying her for fifth on the All-Time list. 
 
To wrap up the weekend's competition, the women's 4x400m relay team of Burton, Patricija Roshofa, Shaniya Benjamin and Doneisha Anderson placed fifth in 3:39.64, making them the third best quartet in program history. The men's squad of Reid, Daunte O'Banion, Elijah Wright, and Michael Bourne III, placed second in the competition with a time of 3:13.26.
 
The Bulls will be back in action on Saturday, February 18 for the first outdoor meet of the season, the Tampa Track Classic.
 
 
About USF Track and Field
The USF track and field team has earned 53 All-America selections and at least one All-American in 10 of the last 12 years, including a record eight athletes claiming 11 honors in 2021. Tampa native Shaniya Benjamin set a program record earning three All-American honors during the 2021 outdoor season, while triple jumper Matthew O'Neal, a 2016 graduate, became USF's first six-time NCAA All-American. Bulls have posted two NCAA runner-up finishes since
2013 - O'Neal (triple jump, 2016) and Courtney Anderson (high jump, 2013). Head coach Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2020 and in the 2021 outdoor season the Bulls posted seven program records and 40 top 10 all-time program marks. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium located on the east end of campus.
