TAMPA (April 30, 2023) – The Cincinnati Bearcats (20-24, 8-7 AAC) completed a three-game sweep over the University of South Florida Bulls (17-28, 6-9 AAC) on Sunday afternoon with a 10-4 victory at USF Baseball Stadium.
The high-scoring series saw Cincinnati out-score South Florida, 30-20. The Bearcats won each of the first two games of the weekend series by two runs, including a 10-inning affair on Friday.
The Bulls held a lead in all three games of the series, including Sunday's finale, 3-2 after four innings, only to see the Bearcats rally from behind.
Stanton Leuthner (New Providence, N.J.) put USF on the board first Sunday with an RBI-double in the second inning. Cincinnati answered with a pair of runs in the top of the third, only to see the Bulls tie the game in the bottom of the frame on a solo home run by Eric Snow (Forsyth, Ga.).
Bobby Boser's (Wesley Chapel) RBI-double in the fourth inning gave USF a 3-2 edge before the Bearcats plated seven unanswered runs over the fifth and sixth frames to take a 9-3 advantage.
Snow drove in his second run of the day with a double in the seventh inning and Cincinnati plated its final run of the game in the top of the eighth.
USF's four errors in the setback matched a season high and led to three unearned runs in the ballgame.
Lawson Gailey (Lavonia, Ga.) made his seventh start of the season and was charged with the loss after allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits over 4.1 IP. The freshman right-hander struck out three and did not surrender a walk.
