Tampa, Fla. (April 8, 2023) – No. 55 USF Women's Tennis gutted out a win in a back-and-forth match with Tulane, 4-3. In a tightly contested contest, five of the six singles matches went to a third set. USF has now won nine of their last 10 matches to improve to 13-6 on the season.

The Bulls surrendered the first point as Tulane took the doubles matches 2-1. The teams split the first two and Tulane needed a hard fought 7-5 win on Court 3 to earn the point.

On Court 2 Nadja Bay-Christians and Marta Falceto Font won their match 6-1 to give the Bulls an early lead.

The Green Wave evened things up on Court 1 as Sierra Berry and Grace Schumacher fell 3-6.

In the deciding doubles match, Laura Pellicer and Margriet Timmermans, who were down 4-1, evened the match at 5-5. Their comeback fell short as Tulane won the last two games for the 7-5 win and first point. 

In singles, Laura Pellicer put the Bulls on the board winning in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Pellicer improves her singles record to 10-8 on the season.

The Bulls took a 2-1 lead with a win by Marta Falceto Font. After a close 5-7 loss in the first set, Falceto Font took the next 6-2, 6-1. 

Tulane knotted the score at 2-2 as Sabrina Ibarra was on the wrong end of a 6-4, 5-7, 1-6 score in her match. 

Sierra Berry put the Bulls ahead 3-2 with a rousing comeback victory, Berry dropped the first set 1-6 and overcame a 1-4 deficit and fought off a set point at 4-5 to win the second set in a tiebreaker 7-5 (7-2). She rode the momentum to a 6-2 win in the deciding third set. Berry improves her singles record to 14-2.

The match was sealed by Grace Schumacher in a three-set win. Schumacher lost the first set 5-7. She came back to win the second set in a tiebreaker 7-6 (7-2) and pulled away in the third set 6-2.

In the final match of the day, Cliona Walsh split the first two sets, winning 6-4 and dropping the second 4-6. The match was defaulted when the team match was clinched and the point awarded to Tulane.

USF returns to action April 13 at 3:00 p.m. when they travel to Orlando to take on UCF.
