Tampa, Fla., May 13, 2023 – The University of South Florida track and field team finished another successful day at the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships on Saturday evening, despite a nearly five-hour lightning delay. The Bulls tally more qualifying athletes for the final heats tomorrow.
Nia Robinson started the Bulls off strong in the long jump after winning the conference championship title with a new USF and AAC record of 6.69 meters (21-11.5). Robinson surpassed the previous meet record by .11 meters. Shaniya Benjamin placed fifth overall with a mark of 5.96m (19-6.75).
Both Je'Nyia Burton and Doneisha Anderson qualified for the women's 400m dash finals after winning their heats with times of 52.93 and 54.09 seconds, respectively. Burton's mark set a new program, surpassing Marilyn Payton's 1998 record. Elijah Wright finished second in the men's event with 46.69, earning a spot in the finals, along with Shevioe Reid (47.07) and Daunte O'Banion (47.28).
Michael Bourne III continued a successful championship meet, advancing to the finals in the 110-meter hurdles qualifying with a time of 14.04. Victor Steiner advances as well with a time of 14.40 seconds. Chakiya Plummer advances to the women's of the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.81 seconds.
Arden La-Rose just missed making the final in the women's 800m with a time of 2:11.39, Patricija Roshofa established a personal best of 2:12.85. In men's section Jesse Benavides runs a personal best of 1:53.79.
Zayquan Lincoln and Jaleel Croal advanced to the men's 100m dash finals with times of 10.53 and 10.56, good for fifth and seventh place, respectively.
Victor Steiner closed out the day for the Bulls with a eighth place finish in the Men's Long Jump Final with a mark of 6.98m (22'10.75).

The Bulls continue competition at the AAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships tomorrow at 11:30 a.m with the women's pole vault. The meet is streamed on ESPN+.
About USF Track and Field
The USF track and field team has earned 54 All-America selections and at least one All-American in 10 of the last 12 years, including a record eight athletes claiming 11 honors in 2021. Tampa native Shaniya Benjamin set a program record earning three All-American honors during the 2021 outdoor season, while triple jumper Matthew O'Neal, a 2016 graduate, became USF's first six-time NCAA All-American. Bulls have posted two NCAA runner-up finishes since 2013 - O'Neal (triple jump, 2016) and Courtney Anderson (high jump, 2013). Head coach Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2020 and in the 2021 outdoor season the Bulls posted seven program records and 40 top 10 all-time program marks. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium located on the east end of campus.
