Tampa, Fla., May 23, 2023 – The University of South Florida track and field team is heading to Jacksonville, Fla. for the NCAA East Prelims, where it will have student-athletes compete in 16 different events over the four-day meet.

Michael Bourne III begins the meet for USF on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the men's first round of the 110-meter hurdles competition. He is currently the USF record-holder in the event with a time of 13.91 seconds. Bourne returns to the track at 8:20 p.m. for the 400m hurdles preliminaries.

At 6:30 p.m.,
Stone Baker and
Kobe Babin will represent South Florida in the pole vault, followed by
Elijah Wright in the first round of the men's 400m dash at 7:25 p.m.

Later on,
Shevioe Reid wraps up the first day of competition in the first round of the men's 200m dash at 8:45 p.m.

On Thursday,
Nia Robinson and
Shaniya Benjamin start things off at 6 p.m. in the women's long jump while
Shaneylix Davila runs the 100-meter hurdles at the same time.

Shortly after,
Je'Nyia Burton and
Doneisha Anderson run the first round of the women's 400m dash, followed by
Sanique Walker competing in the 400m hurdles after breaking a new program record and winning the AAC championships with a time of 55.87 seconds. Benjamin closes out the day in the first round of the women's 200m dash at 8:45 p.m.

Romaine Beckford, who enters the competition seeded third in the event, starts the day off for the Bulls on Friday with the men's high jump preliminaries at 2:30 p.m.

Friday's competition also features the quarterfinals for the men's 4x100m relays starting at 5 p.m. with
Danelson Mahautiere, Reid,
Jaleel Croal, and
Zayquan Lincoln. The men's 4x400m relay of
Daunte O'Banion, Reid, Bourne, and Wright will close of the day on Friday at 8:45 p.m.
On Saturday,
Annia Ashley kicks off the day in the first round of the women's high jump at 2:30 p.m.

To close out the prelims on Saturday, the women's 4x100 relay of Burton,
Jadaja Baxter,
Terren Peterson, and Benjamin run at 5 p.m., while the 4x400 relay of Benjamin, Burton,
Zahria Allers-Liburd, and Anderson runs at 8:45 p.m.

Twelve in each individual event and 12 relay teams at the East Prelims will advance to the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas from June 7-10.

About USF Track and Field
The USF track and field team has earned 56 All-America selections and at least one All-American in 10 of the last 12 years, including a record eight athletes claiming 11 honors in 2021. Romaine Beckford won the 2023 NCAA Indoor Championship in the men's high jump. Tampa native Shaniya Benjamin set a program record earning three All-American honors during the 2021 outdoor season, while triple jumper Matthew O'Neal, a 2016 graduate, became USF's first six-time NCAA All-American. Bulls have posted two NCAA runner-up finishes since 2013 - O'Neal (triple jump, 2016) and Courtney Anderson (high jump, 2013). Head coach Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2020 and in the 2021 outdoor season the Bulls posted seven program records and 40 top 10 all-time program marks. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium located on the east end of campus.Â
