TAMPA (August 31, 2023) – The University of South Florida men's soccer (0-2) welcomes Mercer (1-1) to Corbett Stadium on Friday, Sept. 1 at 7:00 p.m. in the first of a five-match home-stand. The contest will air live on ESPN+.
SETTING THE STAGE
USF continues the hunt for its first victory and home win of the 2023 campaign, as the Bulls have lost two straight games. The Bears collected their first win of the season in a 2-0 shutout against Southern Indiana on Sunday, Aug. 27.
SOUTH FLORIDA-MERCER SERIES
Friday's match marks the sixth all-time meeting between the two squads. The parings extend back to the 1984 season. USF is undefeated against Mercer and has won all five clashes, all but one has taken place at Corbett and a single match was played at a neutral site.
LAST TIME OUT
South Florida fell to Seattle, 2-0, on Sunday, Aug. 27, in its second consecutive loss. Sophomore GK
Alan Horrocks logged his second career start and collected a single save.

Brian Schaefer, and Horrocks each logged a full 90 minutes of action. South Florida led the Redhawks in shots, 13-4, with eight coming in the second stanza. Two of the second-half attempts by USF' Jeffery Copper and
Nicolas Scargle were on target, but both were not allowed by Seattle's goalie.
SCOUTING THE BEARS
Freshman Midfielder Barzee Blama leads Mercer with two goals on the season and scored the game-winner against Southern Indiana. Sophomore Midfielder Fernando Artega is second on the team in goals with one. Notable players returning to the Bears this season with substantial playing experience include, Preseason All-SoCon defender Sekou Agard, Preseason All-SoCon midfielder Dylan Gaither Senior goalkeeper Trevor McMullen returns in goal for the Bears after starting 15 games last season.
A LOOK AHEAD
The Bulls remain home at Corbett for the next four matchups, facing Indiana on Friday, Sept. 8 at 7:00 p.m., followed by Clemson (Sept. 12), Elon (Sept. 17), and SMU (Sept. 22).
USF ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME
Alumni Jeff Attinella has been selected as a member of the 2023 USF Athletics Hall of Fame Class and will be inducted on Thurs., Nov. 9. An NSCAA First-Team All-American goalkeeper (2009), Attinella is one of two student-athletes to receive that honor in USF men's soccer history. A three-time All-Region selection and three-time Big East All-Conference honoree, earning first-team honors in both in 2009, Attinella played on four NCAA Tournament Teams and helped lead the 2007 team to the NCAA Sweet 16 and the 2008 team to the NCAA Elite Eight.

USF Men's Soccer competed in the school's first-ever intercollegiate athletic contest on Sept. 25, 1965, beating Florida Southern 4-3.
