Tampa, Fla. Feb. 8, 2024 – The University of South Florida track and field team left the Windy City Invitational with seven event winners, two program records, and 16 new entries into program history top-10 performances. The Bulls had four men in the 60m dash final as
Jaleel Croal won (6.66).
Zahria Allers-Liburd won both her 400m section (53.82) on Friday and her 200m (23.89) section on Saturday. The men's 4x400 relay team of
Tre'Sean Bouie,
Shevioe Reid,
Daunte O'Banion, and
Markel Jones took first and set a program record (3:07.55).
FRIDAY
Friday saw the Bulls finish with two event wins, one program record, and 11 new entries into program history top-10 performances.
Abdul-Rasheed Saminu led the field in preliminaries for the men's 60m dash (6.67), while Croal,
Jermaine Dyges, and
Zayquan Lincoln all also qualified for the finals. With South Florida taking up half the eight men's 60m dash Final slots, Croal and Saminu seemed to have tied for first (6.66), but Croal just edged Saminu by hundredths of a second and took first with a new personal best time along with the second fastest time in program history. All four men, Saminu, Croal, Dyges, and Lincoln, occupy the four fastest 60m dash times in program history.
Lynette Scutari led the field in qualifying for the women's 60m dash (7.46), running the fourth fastest time in program history, and advanced to preliminaries joining
Shaniya Benjamin. In prelims, Benjamin ran a personal best (7.52), good for ninth in program history, but nearly missed out on advancing to the finals.
The meet would have two sections for the men's and women's 400m events. The first women's 400m section saw Allers-Liburd take first (53.82) with the second-fastest time in program history. The second section saw
Terren Peterson take third (54.38) with the third-fastest time in program history.
Amenda Saint-Louis would finish fourth (54.50) with the fifth-fastest time in program history.
Bouie took third (47.24) and O'Banion took fourth in the men's second 400m section, both with their times ranking the same place in program history.
Nathan Metelus ran the fifth-best time in program history (47.63), while
Devontie Archer ran the ninth-best (47.74).
In the men's long jump,
Goodness Iredia would set a program record (7.52), hitting the mark twice and finishing in second place. In the women's long jump, Benjamin finished third (6.02m).
SATURDAY
Saturday saw the Bulls finish with five event wins, one program record, and five new entries into program history top-10 performances.
Like yesterday's 400m, the 200m races today would have two sections. In the first women's 200m section, Allers-Liburd took first place (23.89). In the next section, Peterson finished second (23.89) for the fourth-best time in program history. Benjamin followed in third (23.97).
For the men's 200m Reid took first (20.71), Lincoln finished third (20.95) for the third in program history, and Croal finished fourth (21.32) for the fifth-best time in program history.
The men's 4x400m relay team of Bouie, Reid, O'Banion, and Jones came in first (3:07.55) and set a program record. The women's 4x400m relay team of Allers-Liburd, Peterson, Saint-Louis, and Benjamin took home first (3:35.44) with the second-fastest time in program history, though the group ran 3:35.14 last week in Boston, Mass.
In the men's 800m,
Karim Belmahdi ran a personal best of 1:51.34 for fifth in the event and third all-time in program history.
The men's triple jump saw Iredia take first (15.57m). In the men's high jump,
Kendell Mosley tied for third at 2.04m. In the men's pole vault,
Kobe Babin finished fourth (5.21m).
UP NEXT
After The Windy City Invitational, the Bulls will have an off week to prepare for the AAC Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala. February 23-24, which will be followed by the NCAA Indoor Championships March 8-9 in Boston, Mass.

Bulls have posted two NCAA runner-up finishes since 2013 - O'Neal (triple jump, 2016) and Courtney Anderson (high jump, 2013). Head coach Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2020 and in the 2021 outdoor season the Bulls posted seven program records and 40 top 10 all-time program marks. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium located on the east end of campus.
