TAMPA (March 14, 2024) – The University of South Florida Bulls will wrap up a seven-game homestand with a three-game weekend series against the UNC Greensboro Spartans on March 15-17.
South Florida has won six of its last eight games overall and is 7-3 at home this season. USF has won two of its last three weekend series.
The Bulls are coming off a 16-6 (7 inning) win over Maine on Wednesday night. It marked the eighth time this season in 16 total games that USF has scored 10 or more runs. UNCG is coming off an impressive road win at No. 13 NC State on Tuesday, 18-3. The Spartans also have a 4-3 win over then-No. 1 Wake Forest on their resume back in February.
USF has been scoring in bunches as of late, particularly late in games, as the Bulls are outscoring opponents 45-19 in the seventh inning or later this season.
Prior to Wednesday's game, head coach Billy Mohl announced that Bobby Boser suffered a hand injury late in the game last Sunday and will miss a significant amount of time. There is hope Boser will return later this season. Boser was named the AAC Player of the Week on Monday and the NCBWA National Hitter of the Week on Tuesday before the news broke.
The Bulls enter the weekend with 32 stolen bases and are nearing last season's total of 39 steals.
Drew Brutcher comes into the weekend leading the NCAA in walks (25). The slugger ranks sixth all-time in program history in home runs (36) and is nine free passes away from cracking the all-time career walk list.
John Montes has been one of the hottest hitters for USF and enters the weekend leading the team in batting average (.421) and doubles (7). Montes is batting .500 (9-for-18) with three doubles over the last five games.
