USF Track and Field Leaves Gainesville with Three Podium Finishes

Abdul-Rasheed Saminu took second in the 100m dash, Bitter second in pole vault.

Tampa, Fla. April 13, 2024 – The University of South Florida track and field team traveled a light squad to Gainesville for the Tom Jones Memorial and left with three new top-10 entries to program history rankings and three podium finishes.
 
Friday
The Bulls added three new top-10 program history marks on the afternoon.
 
Darian Mills opened up the record books running a 51.37 400m hurdle, the ninth-best by a Bull. He finished fourth place out of 24 runners in the event.
 
Noah Bitter set a personal best, clearing 5.13m/16'-10.00" to claim second place in the men's pole vault open final. This was the ninth-highest clearance recorded in men's program history.
 
Alexandria Hunter upped her personal best hammer throw to 53.55m/175'-8.00", setting the eighth-best distance in program history.
 
Saturday
Abdul-Rasheed Saminu lined up against the nation's elite on Saturday in the men's 100m dash. With next to no wind, Saminu finished second (10.13) place, less than a hundredth of a second from first place.
 
Molie Jean Baptiste took third place in the women's high jump competition with a 1.73m clearance (5'-8.00").

The USF track and field men's team won the 2024 Indoor AAC Championship. Romaine Beckford won the 2023 NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships in the men's high jump as a Bull. The team has earned 56 All-America selections and at least one All-American in 10 of the last 12 years, including a record eight athletes claiming 11 honors in 2021. Tampa native Shaniya Benjamin set a program record earning three All-American honors during the 2021 outdoor season, while triple jumper Matthew O'Neal, a 2016 graduate, became USF's first six-time NCAA All-American. Bulls have posted two NCAA runner-up finishes since 2013 - O'Neal (triple jump, 2016) and Courtney Anderson (high jump, 2013). Head coach Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2020 and in the 2021 outdoor season the Bulls posted seven program records and 40 top 10 all-time program marks. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium located on the east end of campus.
