MEET: NCAA Championships
DATE: June 5th-8th, 2024
LOCATION: Eugene, Ore.
Schedule
Tampa, Fla. May 27, 2024 – The South Florida Track and Field program is sending a program record 12 athletes, eight men and four women, to compete for NCAA Championships across seven different events, six men's and one women's.
South Florida Track and Field program looks to win back-to-back individual NCAA Championships for the first time since 1993 and just the second time in school history. The Bulls track and field program has garnered four National Championships from two athletes. Jon Dennis won the outdoor 5,000m in 1992 and 1993, and
Romaine Beckford swept the indoor and outdoor high jump last season (2023).
The Bulls' men's team has two athletes who qualified for three Semifinals each,
Shevioe Reid and
Abdul-Rasheed Saminu. Saminu will compete in the 100m dash, 200m dash, and 4x100m relay Semifinals. Reid will compete in the 200m dash, 4x100m relay, and 4x400m relay Semifinals.
South Florida also had two men who qualified for two Semifinals each,
Devontie Archer and
Jaleel Croal. Archer will compete in the 400m hurdles and 4x400m relay Semifinals. Croal will compete in the 200m dash and 4x100m relay Semifinals.
The Bulls will also have three athletes in the men's 200m dash semifinals for the first time in program history. No other school has three athletes competing in any of the sprinter Semifinals (100m dash, 200m dash, or 400m dash).
For the first time in program history, South Florida will send both men's relay teams (4x100m and 4x400m) to NCAA track and field's biggest stage.
HOW IT WORKS
For Track events, the Championships will consist of two rounds per gender over four days. The Semifinal will occur first and feature 24 competitors, the top 12 qualifiers from each region (East and West). Then the top 12 times will move on to the Final, the first nine seeds coming from the top three times from each of the three Semifinal heats, and the final three seeds drawing from the remaining three fastest times. Athletes will then have one off day before competing in the Championship event.
NCAA Championship Field events begin in the Final round. A field of 24 competitors (12 from each region) vie for first place and the NCAA Championship. These events are spread out randomly over their gender's two competition days.
All-American status is determined by an athlete's finish in these rounds. First-Team is given to the top eight finishers, and Second-Team All-American status follows with finishers ninth through 16
th. Honorable-Mention All-American is given to the remaining eight finishers in places 17
th through 24
th.
