TAMPA, Fla. (August 24, 2024) – The University of South Florida women's soccer team returns the pitch on Sunday for another in-state matchup as FGCU makes the drive to Tampa. The Bulls (2-1-0) and Eagles (0-1-0) are scheduled for a 1 p.m. start on ESPN+.
Sunday will be camper day as well as Bark with the Bulls. The first 500 fans will receive a Raise The Standard post. After the match, there will be an opportunity to get autographs from the team.
High Five
The Bulls scored five goals in back-to-back matches, a 5-1 victory over Jacksonville and a 5-0 win against Southern. It was the first time since 2019 that South Florida scored five goals in back-to-back matches when USF defeated Rice 5-1 and UTSA 5-0.
Taking Your Shot
South Florida set a new Corbett Stadium record with 40 shots against Southern. For the season, the Bulls are averaging 23.33 shots per match, which is 16th in the NCAA. USF is tied for 20th in the country with 10.33 shots on goal per match.
Brace for Impact
Georgia Brown recorded her second brace of her career, and first of the season, with a two-goal performance against Jacksonville.
Anna Sutter recorded a pair of goals against Southern, which was the third time in her career that she scored multiple goals.
Stout Defense
Over the last two contests, the Bulls have held opponents to just three shots and only two shots on goal. South Florida limited Jacksonville to just two shots for the match. The Dolphins did not record a shot until 47 minutes into the match. South Florida held Southern to only one shot for the match. The USF backline has been strong and has only conceded one corner kick combined in the last two contests.

Anna Sutter paces the squad with seven points, with three goals and an assist. Her seven points are tied for 14th in the NCAA and the best in the AAC. Her three goals are tied for 10th in the country and tied for most in the conference.
Georgia Brown is second on the team with two goals and five points. Her two goals are tied for 51st in the NCAA and tied for third in the American.
Sadie Sider-Echenberg is tied with a team-best two assists, which is tied for 20th in the NCAA and tied for the most in the AAC.

Micahela Hill each have one goal for the year. As a unit, the Bulls are tied for second in the NCAA and first in the AAC with 14 assists. USF is tied for 10th in the nation and leads the AAC with 10 goals.
Defensively,
Leire Herraez Gallach and
Logan McGruder have split time in goal for USF. Herraez Gallach picked up the decisions in all three matches and is 2-1-0 on the year. She has made two saves and surrendered two goals on the season. McGruder has made five saves and has surrendered four goals.
Series History with FGCU
USF and FGCU will meet for the seventh time on Sunday. South Florida leads the series 4-2. The Eagles won the last meeting 2-0 last season in Fort Myers. The Bulls are 3-1 at home against the Eagles.
Scouting the Eagles
Ashley Labbe leads FGCU as the lone goal scorer and she is one of five Eagles to produce a shot for the season. Kendal Gargiula, Katelyn Kauffman, Katharina Oelschlaeger, and Erika Zschuppe are the others who have a shot attempt. Olivia Molina has played all 90 minutes in goal for FGCU. She has made 10 saves on the year and conceded two goals.

The 2024 season will be the first with Chris Brown at the helm. He spent the last 17 seasons as the associate head coach. Brown helped lead the Bulls to three AAC regular season titles, three AAC Tournament titles, and eight NCAA Tournament appearances – winning a conference title every year from 2017-21 while making five straight NCAA appearances during that period. Brown helped lead the Bulls to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in 2010, a program-record 16 wins and program-best NCAA Tournament third-round appearance in 2019, both conference regular season and tournament titles in 2020, and a string of 10 straight seasons with 10 or more wins (2012-21). Brown has helped lead the Bulls to every NCAA appearance in program history, including two appearances in the second round, and three AAC Championship Game appearances.
As associate head coach, he mentored the program's first All-American and recent USF Athletic Hall of Fame inductee Evelyne Viens, who went on to earn three total All-America honors and an Olympic gold medal with the Canadian National Team at the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo. Goalie Sydney Martinez (2020) and forward Sydny Nasello (2020 and 2021) also earned All-America honors and were among the Bulls that have earned a total of eight AAC Offensive Player of the Year, AAC Midfielder of the Year, AAC Defensive Player of the Year or AAC Goalkeeper of the Year honors. Players he has coached hold every program's individual record and most, if not all, of the top 10 marks in every category.
