TAMPA (September 23, 2024) – The University of South Florida women's tennis team opened its 2024-25 season at the K-State Invitational against some of the top teams in the country. The young South Florida squad returns just three returning players and six newcomers, five of which are freshmen.
Returning junior Melisa Senli and sophomore Kelly Vargas each picked up big wins over the three-day weekend event in a field that included K-State, Iowa State, Arkansas and Wichita State.
Senli and Dharani Niroshan, a transfer from Mississippi, picked up a doubles win on day two over Iowa State, 6-1. Senli and Vargas each tallied singles wins over foes from Wichita State later in the day.
The freshmen tandem of Sienna Leeson and Margherita Marcon closed out play on Saturday with a 6-3 doubles victory over Wichita State.
On Sunday, Vargas picked up another win in singles action over her opponent from Iowa State.
