USF Men’s Basketball Fights to the Final Buzzer in 99-95 Loss to George Washington

Josh Omojafo and CJ Brown post career highs as USF stays competitive throughout the game.

Uncasville, Conn., Nov. 8, 2025 –The University of South Florida men's basketball team narrowly fell to George Washington University, 99-95, on Saturday at Mohegan Sun Arena.

Junior guard Josh Omojafo led the Bulls with a career-high 33 points, going 12-for-14 from the free-throw line and adding seven rebounds and three steals. Omojafo became the first USF player to score 30 points in a game since March 1, 2023, and the first to record 20 points in a half since January 12, 2024.

CJ Brown added a career-high 22 points, along with five rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Izaiyah Nelson contributed 14 points and seven rebounds, giving the team three players in double figures.

In the first half, the Bulls moved the ball quickly, forced turnovers, and kept the game close, with the score tied twice. Bench players chipped in key points, highlighting the depth that Head Coach Brian Hodgson is cultivating in his roster. The half ended 40-44, with the Bulls narrowly trailing the Revolutionaries.

The second half saw the Bulls elevate their efficiency, shooting 51.4% from the field and scoring 17 points from the free-throw line. USF recorded 11 fast-break points, 30 points off turnovers, and 25 second-chance points while scoring 50 points in the paint. Bench players added seven more points, helping maintain energy throughout the half. The team's defense recorded 10 steals - the first time since March 7, 2025, and forced 21 turnovers.

Both teams scored 55 points in the second half, with the Bulls staying aggressive and closing the gap in the final minutes. South Florida narrowly fell, 99-95, in a game that highlighted the team's depth, resilience, and standout performances from Omojafo and Brown.

Note-a-Bulls:
  • Career Highs – Josh Omojafo scored a career-high 33 points, the first USF player with 30 points in a game since March 1, 2023. CJ Brown added a career-high 22 points.
  • High-Scoring Half  – Omojafo became the first Bull to score 20 points in a half since January 12, 2024.
  • Defensive Dominance – USF recorded 10 steals, the most since March 7, 2025, and forced 21 turnovers in the game.
  • Free-Throw Milestone - Omojafo went 12-for-14 from the free-throw line, marking the first time a USF player has made 10 or more in a game since November 12, 2024.
