AUSTIN, Texas, March 1, 2025 – The University of South Florida softball team (16-5) earned a pair of wins on the second day of the Longhorn Invitational, defeating Abilene Christian, 3-0, and Alabama A&M, 9-1, on Saturday night.
GAME ONE | South Florida 3, Abilene Christian 0
The Bulls scored first in the second inning off a sacrifice fly from
Karhys Pierce. The Wildcats outfielder fell after catching the ball, allowing
Grace Rawn, who pinch-ran for
Josie Foreman, to score from second base.
South Florida added to its lead in the fourth inning. A leadoff walk from
Alex Wilkes and a single from
Alanah Rivera put a runner in scoring position.
Jamia Nelson knocked a single to right field to bring Wilke across the plate.
Nelson recorded her second RBI of the game on a Wildcat error that allowed
Josie Foreman to come home in the sixth inning.
Payton Dixon earned her ninth start of the season. She pitched five scoreless innings, only allowing two hits, and struck out three.
Belle Sardja pitched the final two innings.
GAME TWO: South Florida 9, Alabama A&M 1 (6 innings)
Two singles from
Camille Ortiz-Martinez and
Jamia Nelson, a walk, and back-to-back doubles from
Kathy Garcia-Soto and
Alexa Galligani gave the Bulls the 3-0 lead in the second inning.
Rivera and Ortiz-Martinez had back-to-back walks to put two on base in the third inning quickly.
Allana Consolazio's bases-clearing triple to right field brought both across the plate, giving the Bulls the 5-0 lead.
The Bulldogs cut the Bulls' lead with an RBI double in the fourth inning. South Florida answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning on an error from Alabama A&M and a groundout from Rivera. The last two runs from the Bulls came off a failed pickoff attempt that allowed Pierce to score and an RBI single from Rivera.
Sardja pitched her second complete game of the season, striking out four batters. She improves to 6-2 on the season.
