Llanes earns AAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, back-to-back honors for the Bulls

Francisco Llanes goes undefeated in the past week, including a clinching point in the upset of No. 13 UCF.

TAMPA (March 11, 2025)- South Florida moves up to No. 23 in newest ITA rankings, while Llanes earns his first AAC Men's Tennis Player of Week since his debut with the Bulls. This award gives the Bulls back-to-back weeks with the AAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week, Hugo Car being the reigning recipient.
 
Llanes went 6-0 in singles and doubles to lead South Florida to three wins this past week, including the highest-ranking win for South Florida in over 10 years. Llanes' week started with a 6-3 win on No. 2 Doubles against University of North Carolina Wilmington on Wednesday. Llanes followed on No. 6 Singles by earning the clinching point with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 score to lead the Bulls to a 4-0 win against the Hawks. Llanes followed with a 7-5 win on No. 1 Doubles against Furman on Wednesday afternoon. He added a straight-set win on No. 6 Singles with a 6-3, 6-1 score to add to the 7-0 sweep over the Paladins.

Llanes ended his week with two wins against his previous university, No. 13 UCF, on Sunday. Llanes earned the doubles clinching point on Court 2, with a 7-5 triumph, and wrapped up No. 6 Singles with a 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 victory, adding to the Bull's 6-1 win over the Knights. This defeat is the highest-ranking win the Bulls have recorded in over 10 years. 
 
UP NEXT
The Bulls will return home for a four-match home stand. South Florida will start by facing No. 35 University of Pennsylvania (14-3) on Wednesday, March 12. The Bulls are 3-0 against the Quakers in previous match-ups, their last meet-up being in 2020, where the Bulls came out on top with a score of 4-0.

Head coach Ashley Fisher is in his ninth year at the helm of the program for the 2024-25 season. Fischer has guided the Bulls to four NCAA Tournaments, including three trips to the second round. He was named the American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2017 & 2019 after leading USF to the conference title in each of those seasons.
