TAMPA, MARCH 17, 2025 – University of South Florida baseball (9-8; 0-0 AAC) will host FGCU (8-11; 1-2 ASUN) at USF Baseball Stadium on Tuesday, March 18 in the first of back-to-back games. The first pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. The teams will play again on Wednesday, March 19, at Swanson Stadium in Fort Myers, Fla. The first pitch is set for 5:00 p.m. Wednesday's game was initially scheduled for March 5 but was postponed due to weather. The games can be seen on ESPN+.
The Bulls are coming off their third series win of the season after taking two of three games against Maryland. USF dropped the opener 5-2 and came back to take the second game 4-3. In that contest, Bryce Archer, pitching in relief, recorded his first win. Archie pitched six innings, giving up one run on three hits with one walk and four strikeouts. From the fourth through the seventh innings, he retired 11 straight batters, which was the most of his career and the most by a Bulls pitcher this season.
USF clinched the series with an offensive performance that saw the Bulls score a season-high 15 runs. The Bulls were led by
Matt Rose, who had a career-high four hits and scored a career-best four runs, and
Sebastian Greico, who had three hits, drove in two runs and scored four runs, his most as a Bull.
USF opened their 60th season, first under
Mitch Hannahs, with a home series win over Iowa.
Setting The Stage:
Junior
Matt Rose is bringing a hot bat into the week. He had a hit in all three games against Maryland. He scored six runs with a season-high of four on Sunday.
Bryce Archie and
Jorge DeCardenas earned their first win of the season. For Archie, it was the first win of his career. Archie landed a spot on the AAC Honor Roll with 6.0 innings pitched and four strikeouts.
Series History:
The Bulls and Eagles have met 30 times, with FGCU holding a 22-8 series lead. In their first-ever meeting, USF fell 5-4 on March 4, 2008, in Tampa. The Eagles won the most recent game 7-5 on April 16, 2024, in Tampa.

Matt Rose had seven hits and scored six runs in the three-game series vs. Maryland and is tied for the team high with a .333 average.

Sebastian Greico leads the Bulls with 22 RBI and six home runs. Greico has reached base in seven of the last 10 games. Earlier this season, he homered in four straight games and tied for the program high.

Ryan Pruitt leads the team with 21 hits, six doubles, and eight stolen bases. He is tied for the team lead with a .333 average, is second on the team with 18 RBI, and has reached base in 14 of the Bulls' 17 games. Pruitt hit his third home run of the season to lead off Saturday's game. It was USF's first leadoff home run since Daniel Cantu on February 19, 2023.

Marcus Brodil has reached base in 16 of the Bull's 17 games and is second on the team with 18 hits. Brodil had four hits and scored three runs in the series vs. Maryland.
Hannahs at the Helm:
Mitch Hannahs was named South Florida's eighth head coach in program history on June 8, 2024, after compiling 355 wins over 11 seasons at Indiana State. The 2023 ABCA NCAA DI Midwest Region Coach of the Year guided the Sycamores to six conference titles and five NCAA Regionals, guiding ISU to a spot in the 2023 NCAA Super Regional. He takes over a USF team that went 26-29 last year and features 24 new players.
