TAMPA, FL., MARCH 17, 2025 – University of South Florida baseball (10-8; 0-0 AAC) defeated the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles (8-12; 1-2 ASUN) on Tuesday night at Red McEwen Field. The Bulls won with a final of 4-1.

With the win, South Florida snapped a five-game losing streak against the Eagles and earned their third win over them in Tampa.

South Florida started the second inning with back-to-back singles from
Jackson Mayo and
Bradke Lohry. Both advanced on a double steal.
Victor Cartagena got the Bulls on the board first with a sacrifice fly for his first career RBI.
Carlos Jacome added another run with an RBI to left center.
Â
Two more runs crossed the plate in the third for the Bulls. After a walk and a single,
Rafael Betancourt batted a run in with a single. Cartagena batted in his second run with the bases loaded and earned his first career hit.

Matt Brown made his first start on the mound. In 4.2 innings, he kept the Eagles scoreless, allowing just two hits. FGCU scored in the fifth inning with a solo home run.Â

The Eagles threatened to score a run in the sixth inning, but after a double play, the Bulls got out of the inning with a fly out to right field.

The Bulls would send two pitchers to the mound,
Nolan Bernard and
Jack Nedrow. Bernard threw two hitless innings and struck out one, while Nedrow threw two hitless innings and struck out two.
