USF Softball Ties in the Series Finale at Wichita State After Five Run Seventh Inning

The Bulls battled back from down five runs in the top of the seventh to tie the Shockers

WICHITA, Kan., March 30, 2025 – Karhys Pierce, Alanah Rivera, and DaNia Brooks each hit a home run for the University of South Florida softball team on Sunday. USF erased a five-run deficit with two outs in the top of the seventh. The Bulls (29-10-1, 8-3-1) tied with the Shockers (17-17-1, 5-6-1) 7-7 inside Wilkins Stadium. The game ended at 3:10 to ensure that USF could make their flight back home. It is the second time that South Florida has tied a game.
 
The Bulls were down to their final out and down 7-2 when Josie Foreman singled up the middle. Rivera belted a two-run homer to left field and cut the deficit to 7-4. After back-to-back walks, Brooks tied the game with a three-run blast to left field.
 
Payton Dixon started in the circle and went 2.1 innings. She had three strikeouts and gave up five runs, only two were earned. Belle Sardja went 1.2 innings in relief with two strikeouts. She surrendered one hit. Anne Long closed out the game for USF with 2.0 innings. She had one strikeout. She gave up two earned runs on two hits.
 
Alexa Galligani, Foreman, and Rivera posted a 2-for-3 game at the plate. Rivera and Brooks tied for a game-high three RBIs.
 
Pierce launched a solo home run over the right field wall with two outs in the top of the second.
 
In the bottom of the second, the Shockers tied the game on a double to left field. Wichita State tied the game at 1-1 after two innings.
 
South Florida loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the third inning. Alanah Rivera drew a six-pitch walk that plated Alexa Galligani from third. USF held a 2-1 lead after two and a half innings of play.
 
Wichita State took a 5-2 lead after scoring four runs on three hits with two South Florida errors in the bottom of the third. The Shockers added two runs in the home half of the fifth inning and extended their lead to 7-2.
