USF WOMEN’S SAILING SET FOR JEN HARRIS TEAM RACE AT NAVY

March 06, 2025

TAMPA, FLA., MARCH 6, 2025 — The University of South Florida women's sailing team continues its spring season this weekend as it travels to Annapolis, Maryland, to compete in the Jen Harris Women's Team Race, hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy on March 8-9. The event features a highly competitive field, including top-ranked teams such as Yale, Harvard, Brown, Georgetown, UPenn, Cornell, Hobart, Charleston, and Navy.

The Bulls enter the event following a steady progression through the early portion of the season. Two weeks ago, USF hosted the first women's team race event of the year before traveling to the College of Charleston last weekend for another strong test. This weekend's regatta will provide another valuable opportunity to compete against some of the best programs in the country.

USF's lineup for the Jen Harris Women's Team Race will include Kay Brunsvold (Sr.) sailing with Melissa Janes (Jr.), Kalea Woodard (Sr.) paired with Ruth Bergman (Fr.), Kailey Warrior (So.) teaming up with Madisen Hamai (Jr.), and Ghislaine Van Empel (So.) sailing alongside Cate Brennan (Jr.). The Bulls will also have to battle the elements, with high temperatures expected to reach only the 40s throughout the weekend.

"This is an important test for our team as we continue progressing through the spring season," said Allison Jolly, Head Coach of Women's Sailing. "We've had strong competition early on, and this weekend's regatta gives us another opportunity to push ourselves against some of the best teams in the country. Sailing in colder conditions will be an adjustment, but I know our team is ready for the challenge."

Following the Jen Harris Team Race, USF will continue its northward stretch of competition, preparing for more high-level regattas as the season unfolds.
