USF Softball Falls to Blazers

TAMPA, March 7, 2025 – The University of South Florida softball team (17-8, 0-1 AAC) fell to the UAB Blazers (10-11, 1-0 AAC) in a heartbreaking loss to open conference play on Friday night at the USF Softball Stadium. UAB had its biggest comeback win, scoring four runs in the seventh to win the game, 7-6.
 
The Blazers struck first, scoring one run in the opening frame. The Bulls quickly answered with a leadoff home run from Josie Foreman to start the second inning. DaNia Brooks added a run later in the inning with a sacrifice fly, giving the Bulls the one-run lead.
 
Olivia Elliott followed Foreman's footsteps with a leadoff home run in the third inning, growing South Florida's lead to 3-1.
 
Kathy Garcia-Soto and Elliott led the inning with a walk and a single. After advancing on a sacrifice bunt, Alex Wilkes's RBI single gave South Florida the 5-1 lead.
 
UAB cut the lead to two runs, scoring two in the sixth inning.
 
Alanah Rivera hit a leadoff single to start the sixth inning. Belle Sardja made her DI debut at the plate, laying down a sacrifice bunt. Jamia Nelson brought South Florida's sixth run across the plate with a single through the middle.

  • The Bulls are now one home run away from matching last season's total of 19.
