USF Baseball Welcomes Charlotte to The Red for Three-Game Series

The Bulls and 49ners battle for sole possession of second place in the conference standings.

TAMPA, APRIL 16, 2025 – The University of South Florida baseball team (20-14, 8-4 AAC) will welcome the Charlotte 49ers (21-15, 8-4 AAC) for a battle for sole possession of second place in the American Athletic Conference this Thursday through Sunday. All three games will be streamed on ESPN+.  
 
After the first four conference weekends, the Bulls are tied for second place with Charlotte. Both clubs are two games behind UTSA (10-2) and have a one-game lead on Tulane (7-5) and East Carolina (7-5).
 
Setting The Stage:
The Bulls are coming off a loss at No. 7 Florida State on Tuesday. Ryan Pruitt led the team with two hits. He has a hit in eight of his last 11 games, four of which were multi-hit performances.
 
South Florida and Charlotte are the only teams to throw a shutout in conference play. The Bulls shutout Tulane, 3-0, on March 28. Charlotte shutout East Carolina, 6-0, on April 11.
 
Series History:
The Bulls and 49ers have met 57 times, with South Florida leading the all-time series 33-24. In Tampa, the Bulls lead 14-7. Charlotte won the series in Charlotte last season.   
 
Note-A-Bull:
  • In conference play, South Florida's team batting average of 0.326, 139 hits, and 0.512 slugging percentage leads the AAC.
  • RHP Jack Nedrow has allowed 14 earned runs and 29 hits, the second-least in the conference.
  • LHP Corey Braun has posted a 2.39 overall ERA and a 1.47 conference ERA. His overall ERA leads the AAC. He is second in conference ERA, behind Charlotte's Gillespie Blake (0.90).
  • 1B Sebastian Greico has hit 11 home runs this season. He is tied for first place in the conference with UTSA's Drew Detlfsen. He also has a season-slugging percentage of .629%. He ranks third in the AAC.
  • OF Jackson Mayo is one home run away from breaking into the top 10 career home run list in program history. He has hit 28 home runs in his career.
 
Hannahs at the Helm:
Mitch Hannahs was named South Florida's eighth head coach in program history on June 8, 2024, after compiling 355 wins over 11 seasons at Indiana State. The 2023 ABCA NCAA DI Midwest Region Coach of the Year guided the Sycamores to six conference titles and five NCAA Regionals, guiding ISU to a spot in the 2023 NCAA Super Regional. He takes over a USF team that went 26-29 last year and features 24 new players.
 
60th Year of USF Baseball:
The South Florida Baseball program played its first season in 1966 and will enter its 60th campaign in 2025. The Bulls have made 14 NCAA Tournament appearances and earned their first-ever Super Regional berth in 2021. USF has won 11 conference titles - five tournament titles (3 Sun Belt, 1 Metro, and 1 American) and six regular season championships (3 Sun Belt, 2 Metro, and 1 C-USA). Bulls baseball players have been recognized with All-America honors 12 times, and 19 Bulls have earned Freshman All-America accolades.
