USF Baseball Set For Three-Game Series at Wichita State

The Bulls look to stay in second place in the American standings.

TAMPA, APRIL 24, 2025 – The University of South Florida baseball team (22-16, 10-5 American) will head out west for a three-game series against the Wichita State Shockers (12-28, 4-11 American) this Friday through Sunday at Eck Stadium.
 
After the first half of conference play, the Bulls sit in second place with a one-game lead on Florida Atlantic, East Carolina, and Charlotte (9-6). UTSA (12-3) has a two-game lead on South Florida. Wichita State and Memphis are at the bottom of the standings with a 4-11 conference record.  
 
Setting The Stage:
The Bulls are coming off a heartbreaking 10-9 walk-off loss at Bethune-Cookman. South Florida set a season-high of five stolen bases, with Ryan Pruitt leading with two. Carlos Jacome led the Bulls, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, a triple, and a stolen base.
 
Series History:
The Bulls and Shockers have met 25 times, with the series tied 12-12-1. Wichita State narrowly leads the road series 5-4-1. Last season, the Bulls took all three games in Tampa.    
 
Note-A-Bull:
  • UTL Rafael Betancourt is ranked in the top five in batting average (.407) and hits (24) in conference play. He is fifth in batting average and second in hits behind UTSA's Mason Lytle.
  • OF Marcus Brodil has successfully reached base in all 15 conference games. He has an on-base percentage of .484 in conference play.
  • RHP Jack Nedrow has allowed the second-fewest amount of walks in conference play with two. Overall, his seven are the fewest allowed.
  • LHP Corey Braun has an overall ERA of 2.90, which ranks second in the conference. He leads the conference in innings pitched (68.1) and has the third-lowest opponent batting average (.195).
 
Additional Notes:
  • OF Ryan Pruitt has produced 14 multi-hit games this season and has seven in his last 10 games.
  • SS Bradke Lohry has scored 11 runs in his last 13 games. He is tied for first on the team with 31 runs scored. Brodil has also scored 31.
  • With his RBI on Tuesday, Sebastian Greico continues to lead the team with 37 RBI this season.
  • OF Jackson Mayo is one home run away from breaking into the top 10 career home run list in program history. He has hit 28 home runs in his career.
 
Hannahs at the Helm:
Mitch Hannahs was named South Florida's eighth head coach in program history on June 8, 2024, after compiling 355 wins over 11 seasons at Indiana State. The 2023 ABCA NCAA DI Midwest Region Coach of the Year guided the Sycamores to six conference titles and five NCAA Regionals, guiding ISU to a spot in the 2023 NCAA Super Regional. He takes over a USF team that went 26-29 last year and features 24 new players.
 
60th Year of USF Baseball:
The South Florida Baseball program played its first season in 1966 and will enter its 60th campaign in 2025. The Bulls have made 14 NCAA Tournament appearances and earned their first-ever Super Regional berth in 2021. USF has won 11 conference titles - five tournament titles (3 Sun Belt, 1 Metro, and 1 American) and six regular season championships (3 Sun Belt, 2 Metro, and 1 C-USA). Bulls baseball players have been recognized with All-America honors 12 times, and 19 Bulls have earned Freshman All-America accolades.
