USF Softball Makes the Trip to Boca Raton for a Clash with First Place, No. 23 FAU

The Bulls and the Owls will battle it out for the top spot in the AAC

TAMPA, Fla., April 3, 2025 – The University of South Florida softball team is back in action this weekend with a crucial American Athletic Conference series with No. 23 Florida Atlantic. The Bulls (29-10-1, 8-3-1) are currently in second place in the conference standings and are ready to battle the Owls (32-6, 11-1), who sit atop of the league standings, in game one on Friday at 6 p.m. inside FAU Softball Stadium on ESPN+.
 
Earlier this week, Alanah Rivera was named to the AAC Honor Roll. She led the team with two home runs and had four RBIs.
 
Setting The Stage:
South Florida is coming off a 1-1-1 weekend against Wichita State. The Bulls erased a five-run deficit with two outs in the top of the seventh inning. USF is 6-3-1 on the road this season. Florida Atlantic is coming off a 5-2 loss against FIU. The Owls are 16-4 at home.
 
Series History:
USF and FAU will meet for the 28th time on Friday. The Bulls lead the series 19-8 and are 4-1 in Boca Raton. The Owls have won three of the last four meetings, including a 6-2 win in the series finale in Tampa last season.
 
Note-A-Bull:
Alex Wilkes leads the team with nine home runs, which is tied for 10th most in a single season in program history.
 
Josie Foreman is second on the team with seven home runs this season and has 18 home runs in her career. She is one away from tying Carmela Liwag (2002-05) for 10th in program history for career home runs.
 
Camille Ortiz-Martinez is third on the squad with six home runs. She has 12 home runs for her career, seven away from cracking the top 10.
 
Alanah Rivera is tied for first on the team with 10 doubles. She has 31 doubles in her career, six away from tying Kourtney Salvarola (2011-14) for 10th in program history.
 
Olivia Elliott leads the team with 39 runs scored, which leads the conference and is tied for 27th in the NCAA. 
 
Additional Notes:
South Florida is tied for eighth in the NCAA with 65 doubles. The Bulls are third in the nation with 37 sac bunts. South Florida is tied for 17th in the NCAA with 327 hits. Defensively, USF is tied for ninth in the country with 20 double plays.
 
The Bulls are also leading the conference in seven additional statistical categories: hit-by-pitch (39), on-base percentage (0.421), RBIs (231), slugging percentage (.526), total runs (246), sac flies (16), and walks (112).
 
Kathy Garcia-Soto is sixth in the NCAA and leads the AAC with 91 assists. She has the second most assists in the country at second base.
 
Payton Dixon is fourth in the nation with 127.1 innings pitched. Her 29 appearances are tied for second in the country. She also leads the AAC in complete games with nine and shutouts with three.
 
Belle Sardja has five saves on the season and is tied for fifth in the NCAA and second in the AAC.
