USF Baseball Falls to Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn, APRIL 6, 2025- The University of South Florida baseball team (19-10; 7-1 AAC) fell to the Memphis Tigers (12-19; 1-8 AAC) on Sunday afternoon. The Bulls fell with a final of 13-8.
 
The Bulls opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly from Jackson Mayo after a walk from Bradke Lohry and a double from Sebastian Greico. Memphis answered with three runs in the bottom of the first inning.
 
South Florida plated four runs in the second inning to regain the lead. Carlos Jacome hit his third home run of the season to start the inning. After Matthew Buffington and Greico earned walks, they crossed the plate on a home run by Mayo. The Bulls scored two more runs on an RBI single from Marcus Brodil.
 
Memphis completed the comeback win, scoring seven runs in the last two innings.
 
The Bulls sent seven pitchers to the mound. James Hill and Lex Sanchez led with two strikeouts a piece.  
 
Key Stats:
  • Rafael Betancourt set a season-high of five hits. He finished 5-for-5 with one run and one RBI.   
  • Five Bulls had a multi-hit performance.
  • Brodil, Mayo, and Rose have produced a multi-hit performance in back-to-back games.
 
Notables:
  • Jackson Mayo hit his 27th home run of his career. He is two away from breaking into the top 10 in program history and tying Scott Hemond and Bob Ribinski.
  • Marcus Brodil has reached base in nine straight games. He leads the team in conference play.

South Florida will return home for a midweek matchup with the Stetson Hatters on Tuesday, April 8 at 6 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
