CHARLOTTE, N.C., May 15, 2025  South Florida opened competition at the 2025 American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships on Thursday with a strong showing in Charlotte, N.C., highlighted by a second-place finish from Annalee Harbison in the women's hammer throw.

Harbison threw for a mark of 55.99 meters (183 feet, 8 inches), not only earning silver but also moving into fifth place on Bulls' all-time list in the event.

"Annalee set the tone for us with a phenomenal performance," said head coach Erik Jenkins. "She's been building toward this all season, and to see her step up on this stage and deliver for her team was just outstanding. Across the board, we saw the same energy needed from our sprinting group heading into the rest of the meet."

The Bulls continued to find success in the field as Jason Nwosu led the men's hammer throw squad with a toss of 55.28m (181' 4"), followed by Vincent Ugwoke (51.54m | 169' 1") and Aidan Marsh (48.54m | 159' 3").

In the women's javelin throw, Natalie Danner secured 12th place with a throw of 40.41m (132' 7").

On the track, USF saw a wave of athletes advance to Saturday's finals.

Karim Belmahdi clocked a time of 3:47.86 in the men's 1500m to advance, while the Bulls also placed multiple qualifiers in both the men's and women's 200m dash. Terren Peterson and Skyler Watts moved on for the women, while the men's team featured four qualifiers: Alexavier Monfries, Abdul-Rasheed Saminu, Jaleel Croal and Nathan Metelus.

The Bulls' depth showed again in the 400m hurdles. On the men's side, Devontie Archer, Joshua Crum, Michael Bourne III, and Darian Mills each earned spots in the final. Madeline Abega and Chakiya Plummer advanced on the women's side.

Friday's schedule will include several field event finals—long jump, shot put, and pole vault—along with preliminary rounds in running events such as the 100m hurdles, 110m hurdles, 800m run, 400m run, 100m dash, and 3000m steeplechase.

South Florida looks to build on its momentum as championship weekend continues at Irwin Belk Track.
