Alex Wilkes Plays the Hero as USF Softball Walks Off UTSA

The Bulls have recorded 40 wins for the 20th time in program history and the 18th time under Head Coach Ken Eriksen

TAMPA, Fla., May 3, 2025 – Allana Consolazio, Payton Dixon, Josie Foreman, and Alanah Rivera were recognized on Senior Day before the University of South Florida softball team's game against UTSA. Alex Wilkes delivered the walk-off hit as the Bulls (40-14-1, 19-6-1) defeated the Roadrunners (21-32, 6-20) 4-3 inside the USF Softball Stadium on Saturday.
 
With the game tied at 3-3, Kathy Garcia-Soto led off the bottom of the seventh with a single to center field. Olivia Elliott grounded out to third and moved Garcia-Soto into scoring position. With two outs and ahead in the count (3-1), Wilkes got a pitch she liked and drove it into right center for the walk-off hit as USF claimed a 4-3 victory.    
South Florida will be the No. 2 seed in the 2025 American Athletic Conference Tournament and will play its first game on Friday, May 9, at 3:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
 
Garcia-Soto led the Bulls with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate and scored a run. Karhys Pierce posted a 2-for-4 game for USF. Elliott extended her streak of reaching base safely to 14 games with a walk. Alanah Rivera has reached base safely in 14 games with a walk.
 
Payton Dixon got the start in the circle for the Bulls but did not get the decision. She went 6.0 innings and struck out six batters. This is the second straight season that she has surpassed 100 strikeouts. She scattered four hits and surrendered two runs, only one of which was earned. Anne Long picked up the win in one inning of relief and improved to 6-4. She struck out one batter and gave up an unearned run.
 
The Roadrunners jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning.
 
Rivera led off the home half of the inning with a four-pitch walk. Camille Ortiz-Martinez followed with a single up the middle. Jamia Nelson grounded into a double play, but Rivera scored on the play and tied the game at 1-1.
 
UTSA took its second lead in the top of the sixth inning. The Roadrunners utilized a home run by Katia Reyes and led 2-1.
 
Pierce led off the home half of the sixth inning with a single up the middle. Wilkes moved Pierce to second on a sacrifice bunt. Josie Foreman tied the game with an RBI double. Grace Chin entered the game as a pinch runner for Foreman. Rivera grounded out to first, and Chin to third. Ortiz-Martinez reached on a throwing error by the shortstop, which allowed Chin to score. USF led 3-2 after six innings.  
UTSA tied the game in the top of the ninth, 3-3, with a run on one hit and one USF error.
