TAMPA, May 4, 2025- The University of South Florida baseball team (24-21; 12-9 American) fell to the UTSA Roadrunners (37-10, 18-3 American) on Sunday afternoon with a final score of 3-2.
South Florida is still in second place in the AAC standings, tied with Florida Atlantic. FAU is currently playing Tulane. The Bulls are six games behind the UTSA Roadrunners.
Junior right-hander
Jack Nedrow delivered a gritty start for the Bulls (24–21, 12–9 AAC), going seven innings while allowing just two earned runs on seven hits, striking out three and walking one across 103 pitches. He was backed by a solid defensive effort that included two double plays.
After falling behind 1–0 in the top of the seventh, USF tied the game on a towering solo home run by
Jackson Mayo in the bottom of the sixth—his seventh long ball of the season.
Sebastian Greico added a double in the effort, while
Stewart Puckett knocked in a run in the bottom of the ninth to close the gap to one.
Pinch hitter
Matt Rose sparked the ninth-inning rally with a single and later scored, but the Bulls' comeback was cut short as UTSA closer Robert Orloski notched the save with the tying run on base.
Jorge DeCardenas pitched the final two innings for USF, allowing two hits and one earned run while striking out none. He took the loss to move to 1–2 on the year.
Despite being held to four hits, the Bulls stayed competitive against one of the AAC's top arms in Braylon Owens, who went 8.2 innings for UTSA (37–10, 18–3 AAC), striking out seven without issuing a walk.
The Bulls will look to bounce back as they continue AAC play and push for postseason positioning.
