USF Cross Country Gains Momentum at FSU Invite

TAMPA, Fla., September 26, 2025 The University of South Florida cross country teams turned in a series of steady performances Friday at the FSU XC Invite, held at Florida State's Apalachee Regional Park.

On the men's side, Sean Perry set the tone for the Bulls with a team-leading 25:53.5 in the 8K run, continuing his strong start to the season. Cole Stevens and Clayton Knight crossed the line nearly side-by-side, finishing in 26:46.1 and 26:46.9, respectively. Stephen Barber followed with a 27:05.6, while Tanner Andrade-Brinsko rounded out the scoring group at 27:35.0.

The women's squad was led by Delaney Stephens, who clocked a 22:19.8 in the 6K race to pace the Bulls. Hailey Cohen was close behind at 22:23.8, with Ava Heskett recording a 23:08.3 and Caroline Irvin finishing in 23:45.6. Shannon Fischer closed out USF's lineup with a 29:45.11.

"This meet gave us a solid measure of where we are right now," said USF Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Erik Jenkins. "It's all about growth, and I'm encouraged by the way our team continues to work."

The Bulls are set to compete next at the Crimson Classic on Friday, Oct. 17.

About USF Cross Country
The USF Cross Country team has earned 2 All-America selections, Christina Benton in 2002 and Gray Mavhera in 1994. The Bulls have advanced to the NCAA Cross Country Championships seven times in program history, three times for the men and four times for the women. The USF men's teams have won seven team conference championships, and the women have won five team championships. Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Erik Jenkins took over the program in 2019. USF hosted the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary and the 2021 and 2023 American Conference Outdoor Championship at the USF Track and Field Stadium, as well as the 2022 American Country Cross Country Championship at Holloway Park.
