MEMPHIS, Tenn. (January 9, 2026) – The University of South Florida women's basketball team has started 2026 with back-to-back American Conference victories. South Florida remains on the road for a game against Memphis on Saturday. The Bulls (9-7, 2-1 American) and the Tigers (7-9, 1-2 American) are scheduled for a 3 p.m. ET tip on ESPN+.
Setting The Stage:
South Florida enters the weekend on a two-game winning streak, including a 70-65 win at UAB on Tuesday. The Bulls look to remain undefeated in 2026. Memphis picked up its first conference win against Florida Atlantic on Tuesday. The Bulls have had six players score 20 or more points in a game, tied for second-most in the NCAA.
Series History:
The Bulls and the Tigers will meet for the 34th time on Saturday. South Florida leads the series 18-15. USF is 7-9 in Memphis. The Bulls have won 10 of the last 12 meetings, including seven straight.
Note-A-Bulls:
Edyn Battle has had three straight games with at least 15 points, four assists, and a steal. That is the longest streak by any USF player since Andrell Smith had a three-game run in December 2012.
Edyn Battle has 136 points and 26 assists this season. She is the only player this century to have at least 130 points and 25 assists through nine career games with USF.
Stefanie Ingram currently leads the American Conference in 2025-26 with 88 assists and is second with 531 minutes played. The only USF players this century to finish a season ranked in the top 2 in the conference in both categories are Elisa Pinzan (2021-22) and Laia Flores (2017-18). She is one of seven DI players this season who have at least 170 points, 75 assists, and 15 made threes. She is the only USF player this century to have these totals within her first 16 games of a season. She has accounted for 38.3 percent of the team's assists this season, the second-highest share in the American and 18th highest among all DI players. The last USF player to finish a season with a higher share of the category was Elisa Pinzan in 2020-21 (43.2%). She has recorded at least two assists in all 16 games this season. That is the longest streak to begin a campaign by any USF player since Elisa Pinzan's 23-game stretch to start 2020-21.
L'or Mputu is one of six active DI players since the beginning of last season to have at least 1,200 minutes played, 8.0 rebounds per game, and a 57.0 field-goal percentage. She is one of three American Conference players this season with at least 50 offensive rebounds and 50 defensive rebounds. The others are Charlotte's Asianae Nicholson and North Texas' Megan Nestor.
Additional Notes:
South Florida has allowed below a 40.0 field-goal percentage in all three conference games this season. The only other times this century the Bulls did that in at least their first three conference games of a campaign were 2015-16 (first three) and 2014-15 (first five).
The Bulls have started 2-1 or better in conference play for the seventh straight season (since 2019-20). That is the longest such streak in USF program history.
USF's active roster has played in 890 games at the Division I level. That is the most among all American Conference teams and the 10th most among all DI teams.
South Florida has had 89.8 percent of its assists this season come from upperclassmen. That is the second-highest share in the American (Wichita State – 100.0) and 30th in DI.
USF has four players this season averaging at least 9.0 points and 3.0 rebounds per game, tied for the most in the American Conference (Rice, UAB). The last time the team finished with that many players was in 2021-22 (also four).
The Bulls have 12 players with at least 10 free-throw attempts this season. That is tied for most in Division I, along with LSU and UT Arlington. South Florida has shot at least 80.0 percent from the free-throw line in seven games this season. That is the second most in the American Conference, behind Rice (nine).
