USF Softball Splits on Day Two of The Fonseca Memorial Tournament

Alex Wilkes hits two home runs, and McKenna Schroding tosses another complete-game shutout

TAMPA, Fla. (February 13, 2026) – The University of South Florida was back in action on day two of The Fonseca Memorial Tournament on Friday. South Florida fell to Kansas (5-4) 7-2. The Bulls bounced back in game two with a 5-0 victory over the Yale Bulldogs (1-1).
 
Alex Wilkes went 2-for-4 at the plate with two home runs. She has reached base safely in eight straight games. Kathy Garcia-Soto led the Bulls with three hits, going 3-for-8. She extended her hitting streak to five games. Toryn Fulton added a two-hit performance. Wilkes, Garcia-Soto, and Fulton each drove in two runs for USF. McKenna Schroding tossed her second complete-game shutout of the season in game two.
 
Game One: Kansas 7, South Florida 2
 
Wilkes put the Bulls on the scoreboard first with a solo home run to left field to start the second inning.  
The Jayhawks scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning on three hits. Wilkes struck again to lead off the home half of the fourth with another home run, this time down the left-field line. She cut the USF deficit to 3-2.
 
Kansas added four insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning. The Bulls got the leadoff batter on base, but the Jayhawks held on for the 7-2 victory.
 
Anne Long got the start in the circle and went 3 2/3 innings. She struck out two batters and surrendered three runs, only one of which was earned. Belle Sardja threw 3 1/3 innings in relief. She struck out four batters and allowed four earned runs.
 
Game Two: South Florida 5, Yale 0
 
Karhys Pierce led off the home half of the second with a single up the middle. Two batters later, Fulton singled to drive in Pierce from third. Garcia-Soto put the Bulls on top 2-0 with a single to center.  
Alexa Galligani added a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth as USF took a 3-0 lead. Fulton picked up her second RBI of the game with a single to left in the bottom of the sixth. Garcia-Soto drove in another run with an RBI groundout. The Bulls held a 5-0 lead after six innings. Schroding closed out the game, earning her second complete-game shutout of the season. She struck out two batters and allowed four hits.

Kathy Garcia-Soto extends her hitting streak to five games.
Olivia Elliott has reached base safely in nine straight games.
Alex Wilkes has reached base safely in eight consecutive games. She also recorded her first multi-home run performance of the season.
McKenna Schroding tossed her second career complete-game shutout this season and moves to 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA.

The Bulls return to the diamond on Saturday, February 13, for day three of The Fonseca Memorial Tournament. South Florida faces Boston College at 4:35 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
