TAMPA, Fla. (March 29, 2026) – The University of South Florida softball team secured the series victory against Wichita State on Sunday.
DaNia Brooks,
Jamia Nelson, and
Toryn Fulton each contributed two hits as the Bulls (27-11, 9-3 American) won Sunday's game 6-3 against the Shockers (19-13, 7-5 American). South Florida is tied for first place in the American Conference after the weekend series.
Brooks tied for the team high with two hits. She recorded multiple hits in back-to-back games for the first time this season. She has reached base safely in four consecutive games. She also tied a career high with three runs scored. Nelson finished with two hits and tied for the game high with two RBIs. Fulton had a two-hit game and tied for the game high with two RBIs.
Kathy Garcia-Soto tied for a game high with two RBIs.
Karhys Pierce collected a hit and extended her streak of reaching base safely to seven games.
How It Happened
Trinity Allen led off the game with a solo home run to right field, giving the Shockers a 1-0 lead.
Brooks hit a one-out single to right field to start the bottom of the second inning for the Bulls. Nelson followed with a single up the middle. Fulton tied the game with an RBI single up the middle.
Belle Sardja pinch ran for Nelson at second. Garcia-Soto hit a 3-1 pitch off the wall in center for a two-RBI triple. The Bulls took a 3-1 lead into the third inning.
Allen hit her second home run of the game, cutting the USF lead to 3-2 in the third inning. Wichita State tied the game in the top of the fourth on a solo shot by Kenzey Woody.
Brooks began the bottom of the fourth inning with a double off the wall in right-center. Nelson then replaced Brooks with a double down the left-field line. South Florida took a 4-3 lead into the fifth inning.
Pierce started the bottom of the sixth inning with a triple down the left-field line. Brooks drew a four-pitch walk to put runners on the corners with no outs. She then stole second and advanced into scoring position. Nelson drove in her second RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly to center field.
Jocelyn Wilkes moved Brooks to third with a groundout to first base. Fulton delivered her second RBI of the game with a single to third base. The Bulls took a 6-3 lead into the seventh inning.
Anne Long struck out two batters in the seventh inning to secure the 6-3 victory for USF. Long earned the win and improved to 9-3 on the season. She pitched 3 2/3 innings in relief, recording four strikeouts. She did not allow a run and scattered four hits. Sardja started the game and threw two innings, striking out two batters. She surrendered one earned run on two hits.
Carley Ernst pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief, recording one strikeout. She gave up two earned runs on three hits.
